"A native American named Thunder returns home only to find that his ancestral cemetary is being destroyed by construction workers. He trys to put a stop to it, but the law is not only not on his side, but he is banished from town, beaten up, and left for dead. Now he wants his revenge..." (IMDb)
Oh yeah, i watched this classic italian revenge flick which was inspired by the First Blood, again last night. Thunder is one of the first VHS films i saw back in the mid 80s.
The movie was directed by the legendary producer Fabrizio De Angelis alias Larry Ludman and stars Mark Gregory (The Bronx films), always solid Bo Svenson, Raimund Harmstorf, Antonio Sabato, Valeria Ross, Paolo Malco and Giovanni Vettorazzo.
Thunder is better known in the US with the name Thunder Warrior.
Thunder gets in trouble with the local police and construction workers and the police says "Stay out of town" but Thunder has a mission and can´t stay out. Things get rougher and he escapes to the mountains... Yes, it´s pretty much the same plot with First blood but at the same time it´s highly entertaining stuff.
The film includes cool car chase scene, nice score composed by Francesco de Masi and great Arizona locations.
De Angelis made two sequels in the late 80s but i´ve never seen them. They were released on VHS here in Finland so i have to keep my eyes open.
Thunder was released on dvd with the name Drug Traffikers as a part of this triple feature. I can´t understand the name, this movie has nothing to do with drugs
Anyway, check it out if you like great early 80s action films.

I don't think I've ever heard of this one atomik. Thanks for sharing- sounds like something my husband would love as First Blood is one of his favorite movies.

I used to have that same Dutch ex-rental tape from CNR Video, but i got rid of it along with practically all my tapes, over a decade ago.
What did i get in return ? .. That bloody awful looking version which was released as Drug Traffikers on region 1 dvd. How's that for progress ?!!
I still have a xeroxed copy of the CNR sleeve though. I used to do that back then. I also have a promotional add for The Return Of Thunder, but i don't recall that i ever came across the actual tape.
Thunder director Fabrizio De Angelis (aka Larry Ludman) was also the head-honcho behind Italian production company Fulvia Films, which produced several of Lucio Fulci's early-80's splatter classics. Fulci and De Angelis weren't exactly the best of pals with eachother, and it is rumored that there was an actual fist-fight between the two on the set of Fulci's The Beyond (1981).

Very smart move xerox copy the sleeves, very smart.
Some VHS tapes they sell here, have copy sleeves but naturally the prices are lower in those cases.
I´ve heard of the De Angelis vs. Fulci "Rumble in Rome" I wonder who was the winner...
