"A chronicle of the lives of several teenagers who attend a New York high school for students gifted in the performing arts."
Watched Fame last night and it was Fanstastic! I can´t recall how young i was the last time i saw this movie but i hardly remembered anything.
Loved the 70s turning to 80s feel, loved the cast and the music. I also own the soundtrack cd but it´s so much better when you hear it in the film.
Irene Cara, Barry Miller, Paul McCrane, Maureen Teefy, Lee Curreri, Gene Anthony Ray, Laura Dean and Antonia Franceschi were awesome as the students. Albert Hague, Anne Meara, Joanna Merlin and Jim Moody did excellent job as the teachers.
The musical numbers are superbly done. I could watch them all day long. The Hot Lunch (the original name for the film) scene is a perfect example.
I also own the first two seasons of the Fame tv-series, originally produced between 1982 and 1987. I need to find some time to check out few episodes sometime in the future. But next i´m gonna watch few more Irene Cara flicks.

I loved Fame as a kid. It felt so gritty and real... unlike the TV show! (Which was fun in its own way) It's not so gritty anymore, but still a well-made strong movie about a subject that's been done to death in recent years, but was quite fresh at the time.
The soundtrack was great and justifiably deserved the Oscar noms for two songs.
You're right about that 70's turning into the 80's feel it has, maybe because the whole leggings look became fashionable during the era of 'Physical' and 'Jane Fonda's Workout'.

This was on tv here last night. I only watched the first 45 minutes or so. It's still a great time-capsule. I have a sister who's 6 years older than i am, and if i remember correctly she saw this in the theater when it first came out. Some years later we had the rental-tape laying around at our house on a regular basis, untill she discovered a new favorite movie... Top Gun ! ...oh my...
Back then, i was more into ninja's and stuff.
