"Based on the life of Ned Hanlan, the late-19th century Canadian sculler and world champion. Hanlan was one of the first scullers to successfully utilize the "sliding seat." (IMDb)
This is a good little sports drama directed by Charless Jarrott. Starring Nicolas Cage, Cynthia Dale (My Bloody Valentine, Heavenly Bodies), Christopher Plummer, David Naughton, Sean Sullivan and Melody Anderson.
Cage is in great shape and looks so young and innocent Naughton is funny and has a wicked mustache. Anderson and Dale are great (they always are) and we can see Dale topless during the brief love scene.
Roger Webb has composed a good sports movie score and yes, there is also a short training montage
The movie was shot in 1984, finished in 1985 (the end credits say ´85) and released in 1986. Two people were accidentally killed while making this film so that might be the reason which caused the delay. Sympathetic film.
