Don't get me wrong. I love these movies immensely but I don't know if anyone other than Harrison ford could have done it as much justice as what he did.
Harrison Ford is rough and ready!

I think that it would have been much more comedy with Selleck. It feels like Selleck always has this tongue in cheek factor (if it´s not in some lady´s cheek). Or am i just talking about Magnum?
I really need to check out High Road to China and Lassiter soon.

It probably would have been a reasonable series with Selleck, but Ford gave the character extra gravitas that made him legendary.

yeah, russell playing solo like jack burton, would've been great, he would have better rapport with chewbacca and luke, better relationship with leia, more animosity with boba fett and he looks more like a smuggler/space pirate.
in the words of gene wilder: IT COULD WORK!

Yes, you do. It actually makes the whole 'Selleck as Jones' thing more believable.

I like these alternate universe discussions! It was kind of like when Pierce Brosnan couldn't get out of his TV series to do Bond. Folks at the time speculated whether he would have been good. (I thought at the time that he would have been good.) And then, as fate would have it, he got his chance, and he was actually good.
The casting that I always smile about is Christopher Walken as Han Solo. I know that he was on the short list for a while. I think that he obviously would have made the dynamics completely different, but it could have worked! Can't you just hear him say, "C'mon...Chewy..."?
That said, I've always liked Selleck. And while High Road to China and Lassiter are no world beaters, they are good entertainment for a lazy Sunday afternoon. (I like High Road a little better, despite Bob Hoskins' presence in Lassiter.)
