June 12 marks 30 years since the world met and fell in love with Indiana Jones. Even if his more recent effort wasn't quite as much up to snuff as all the previous ones, it doesn't tarnish the legacy of one of the defining characters of cinema (would he have worked as well, would you say, if Tom Selleck had done him as originally planned?). All of the original trilogy have that which too many modern films lack: a true sense of pure fun that everyone can enjoy regardless of age. Each quest is believable and gripping, the perils/foes convincingly menacing, and the humor perfect (who doesn't crack up when he takes the VERY easy route in dispatching the swordsman--which almost didn't happen, as Ford wasn't feeling well on the day of shooting and asked if they could abbreviate what had been written as a long fight sequence). And it's no surprise people hold the Raiders' March high as a theme song; it fits the character perfectly.
