Watched Critters last night, still highly entertaining sci-fi horror comedy.
Last time i saw this was in ´87 when we rented the VHS tape.

The movie was written and directed by Stephen Herek (Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure etc.)

The cast is good:

Scott Grimes, Dee Wallace Stone, Billy Green Bush, always funny M. Emmet Walsh,
young Billy Zane and very pretty Nadine Van der Velde.

 -

Great creature fx by the Chiodo brothers.
I remembered that the Crites were just funny little furballs but these are vicious killing machines [Big Grin]

The soundtrack is pretty good and i love the perfect small town atmosphere.

See Forbidden World movie poster, The Police and Bruce Springsteen posters, ET doll,
funny Ghostbusters bowling shirt... i love all the little details.

Never seen parts 2-4 so i´m gonna watch them too.

critters is great ,critters 2 is an inferior sequel but still a lot of fun, with excellent creature effects, you get a lot more critter action in this one,on the downside only scott grimes returns out of the family and m emmet walsh is nowhere to be seen, never seen 3 or 4 all the way through but have caught the end of both on the horror channel and you could definitely tell they were lower budget productions! 3 has an early appearance by leonardo dicaprio and 4 has angela bassett.

I rewatched the first 3 films recently after many years. The first still holds up well. I like that it is a lot more serious than the others. The second was much better than I remembered, some fun easter horror [Big Grin] The 3rd was, well, it's made me scared to rewatch 4. Oh dear lol

Part 3 is somewhat watchable, if you're really, really bored. Part is a complete waste of film stock, and your time!

"Critters"  rode in the popularity of tiny monsters ranging from Joe Dante's "Gremlins"  (1984) and Charles Band's "Ghoulies" (1985). But in my opinion "Critters"  was no mere rip off and carved its own path of fans.  Oh and the wonderful creature designs were by the infamous Chiodo Brothers best known from one of my favs "Killer Klowns From Outer Space"

 -

"Critters"  is fun movie, reminiscent of 1950 creature features but with a hip wit that rocks even now. When one of the bounty hunters, not knowing any better, shapes his face into that of a currently hot pop-star, the results are quite funny.

"Hey wait! I know you! You're Johnny Steele!"

I'm a huge fan of horror comedy with my fav from that genre being " The Return of the Living Dead "!!

Just watched Critters 2 and it was a great sequel!

Directed by Mick Garris (Sleepwalkers) and written by Garris and David Twohy (Warlock, Pitch Black etc.)

I love the story which takes place two years after the original events.
The cast is again very good:

Scott Grimes is back as Brad and cute Liane Curtis is Megan, his love interest.

 -

Terrence Mann and Don Keith Opper are also back. Charlie is now a bountyhunter.
Lin Shaye is also among the returning cast as Sally.
Barry Corbin plays Harv in this movie.
If you can´t get M. Emmet Walsh, Corbin is a fantastic second choice.
He has the best lines in the movie.
Totally forgot that Eddie Deezen was also in this one. Super!
And what about Roxanne Kernohan as Lee, very hot once again. I love that Playboy scene
It´s a shame that she passed away so young.

 -

Funny Hungry Heifer jingle, lots of movie gags
and fantastic work from the Chiodo boys once again.

Surprisingly tasty sequel!

helen.. too cool! i don't think i've ever seen part 4 all the way. and it's been ages since i've watched the others.

there's a band named Chiodos, their name coming from the moviemakers, Chiodos Bros. my brother is a huge fan. haven't listened to them though. [Smile]

I loved Critters and all its sequels...I remember in one of them (3 or 4 I think) they called them "badger possums." I used to think that was the funniest thing LOL.
