Just watched this very good flick directed by Joan Freeman. She did only two movies, the other one is Satisfaction (1988) which, sadly, i don´t own.
Streetwalkin' is a movie about prostitutes and pimps. It´s a hard life when you belong to another and the pimps are only competing who owns the best girls in town. Very grim and realistic tale from the dark side.
Starring Melissa Leo, Dale Midkiff, Randall Batinkoff, Leon, Antonio Fargas and Khandi Alexander. The cast did a good job, especially Midkiff who was real psycho as Duke.
Lots of street scenes, bars and clubs, action and skin, good score and a very nice theme tune. Check it out if you wanna take a trip to the sleazier side of the town.
Here are the good news: Shout Factory! is going to release Streetwalkin´ on dvd as part of the Roger Corman´s Cult Classics series next August.

Atomik I totally feel like i've seen this.....I always had a crush on Dale Midkiff! haha and problem was he played psychos well
This totally reminds me I want to buy Whore....I remember it being a USA Up all Night flick and it was about a prostitute but narrated and funny? but I might not hold up to what I thought of it as controversial? as a early teen

Midkiff yeah, what a crazy character. This was his first role and he was hit, kicked and shot but kept going on like the Terminator

Wow, thought I was the only one to remember this one. I am sure future stars like Melissa Leo and Greg Jermaine must want to erase this movie from their resume. As for me, I have always loved the gritty, seedy 80's street movie. Tuff turf, alphabet city, Tenement, Street, Out of Bounds, Vice Squad. Kind of low budget, but a good time capsule. Have to re-up this one on dvd.

I watched Streetwalkin' on dvd late last night.
The majority of this movie plays out over just one particular night where everything goes wrong for pimp Duke. He violently abuses one of his girls who ends up in the hospital, while her roommate Cookie (Melissa Leo) decides it's time to leave the abusive Duke and makes a pact with another pimp, who puts out a hit on poor old Duke. However, against the odds, Duke survives and doesn't take Cookie's betrayal too kindly. Turning into a psycho pimp on the loose out for revenge, he's roaming the streets looking for Cookie, who's still turning tricks with a variety of costumers and hanging around with her colleagues on the seedy side of town. Of course, Duke closes in on our heroine, and a climactic confrontation ensues.
Excellent mid-80s exploitation in the same vein as Vice Squad and Angel.. i loved every minute of it !

Hands down one of the greatest films ever made, just a notch down from the immortal Tuff Turf though. Just kidding, but it sounded good didn't it? For some reason, have watched a lot of these kind of movies over the years. Just got this on DVD this year, and as you would have guessed it the original cover art is different.

This region 1 dvd released by Shout Factory does have reversible cover artwork. The original design is on the flipside.

Never seen this, but I do like most '80's films, especially the "rougher" ones that deal with the seamy side of the era. So, I definitely want to check this out.
It's worth noting that in the '90's Melissa Leo starred as a detective on the superb crime drama "Homicide: Life on the Street", set in Baltimore City. And, in the 200X's, she starred in "Treme" which was another great drama set in post-Katrina New Orleans. Both amazing shows.

Just picked up a copy of Streetwalkin' of Amazon so look forward to checking it out probably sometime in the New Year as I doubt it will come before Xmas which is a pity as it would have made for some good Xmas Day viewing!
