It's about time someone voted for U Turn. To me its his best performance. I looked this up on Wikipedia and the movie got slandered pretty hard, but there are great performances all round.
Sean Penn, Nick Nolte, Billy Bob Thornton and Powers booth give it their all in this movie. Jennifer Lopez is quite good too surprisingly and not bad to look at either. Billy Bob Thornton is priceless playing the "inbred tumbleweed hick." I quote the lines between Thornton and Penn a lot.
I saw this back at the movie in 97 and been a big fan ever since. I certainly am not in any rush to visit Superior though.
I always thought this movie however had borrowed/stole some stuff from Red Rock West starring Nicolas Cage. Not to the extent that it's blatantly copied but there are similarities in the film. IMO, U Turn is much better than Red Rock West.
