Danny Devito

1981: Going Ape!
1983: Terms of Endearment
1984: Romancing the Stone
1984: The Ratings Game
1984: Johnny Dangerously
1985: The Jewel of the Nile
1985: Head Office
1986: Wise Guys
1986: Ruthless People
1986: My Little Pony: The Movie (Voice)
1987: Tin Men
1987: Throw Momma From the Train
1988: Twins
1989: The War of the Roses

Danny Devito might not be on the same level of greatness as the Big Guns of the 80's like Bill Murray, Tom Hanks, Harrison Ford, Michael J. Fox...ect. But he was still one of my favorites in the 80's regardless.

I started that thread quite awhile ago. I'm glad to see fellow Rewinders showing interest in the idea of an '80s video game forum. Besides discussing '80s arcade and home console video games, we could also talk about the arcades, home consoles, people, and other topics related to video games in the '80s.

Sorry for not posting more lately. Been overwhelmed with finals for college but will be finished after this week. It'll be nice to get back to chatting with fellow Rewinders on a regular basis.

Anyway, back to the topic at hand. There are tons of great picks already named by posters here. But what about the character actors of the '80s? You know, the actors and actresses who you always recognized and said "Hey, I've seen him/her before, but can't put my finger on his/her name." IMDb has made it a lot easier for us to ID character actors, but in the pre-Internet days it was more fun hunting down information on the familiar faces of movies whose names we didn't know right away.

I'd like to nominate John Vernon (Dean Wormer from Animal House) as a quintessential '80s character actor who did well in terms of screen exposure. You could always count on him to play some kind of crooked authority, academic, or law enforcement figure. Some of his more memorable work from the '80s includes:

Airplane II: The Sequel (1982)
Curtains (1983)
Chained Heat (1983)
Savage Streets (1984)
Fraternity Vacation (1985)
Doin' Time (1985)
Ernest Goes to Camp (1987)
Blue Monkey (1987)
Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988)
I'm Gonna Git You Sucka (1988)

Add to this Vernon's countless appearances on TV shows like The Greatest American Hero, CHiPs, The A-Team, T.J. Hooker, and Airwolf, and you can see why he carved out a niche as one of the '80s' most recognizable faces. Sure, John Vernon may not have ever been a star on the level of Sylvester Stallone or Eddie Murphy, but his prolificity makes him worthy of mentioning in this thread.

His daughter is very nice too in movies like Pretty in Pink. She is smokin' hot.

I'd say Ed Lauter probably matches him for playing the crooked character in 80's movies.
