I think the movie was from the early 80's. The main actor was in a few movies through out the 80's he was english with a strong accent (I think) & he had some sort of a relationship with a woman who had a daughter (blonde, maybe 12-17 years old) (blonde, maybe 12-17 years old) who wanted to be a ballerina or loved the ballet but she was terminally ill. I can remember towards the end of the movie they were in the subway riding a a train home after watching a ballet. I remember the younger girl was swinging and dancing around the bars on the train & then passed out or fell. Really that is all I remember. I think the main male actor was also in another movie with a single name in the title. He was VERY short & petite. If you at least might know who the actor is that would help me also. At least then I could search for the movies he has been in... THANK YOU

It starred Dudley Moore of "Arthur" fame.. but some of your description including the daughter having blonde hair doesn't quite fit. But I'm stilling think that this your movie. Let us know.

THAT IS IT:) I just realized right before I checked the post for a reply that he was in ARTHUR, while watching the promo for the "NEW" Arthur with Russell Brand ( which I have been raving about the original to my husband & in the same breath asking him if he remembered this movie.... lol not realizing it was the same actor I was talking about), I must have been only 5 when seeing this movie with my mom & dad, Maybe younger or a tad older. I am loving this site. It is unbelievable how quickly people are able to help one another with the descriptions. THANK YOU A MILLION TIMES OVER. I will finally be able to watch it again & see if it was as good as I thought it was back then.* not to mention I will be able to sleep without wondering about this movie its been a good 4 months I have been trying to figure this one out*

This is one of a multitude of movies that I had to buy on video from the US. I thought it was ok, a little manipulative, and has something of lifetime movie plot, but ok. Dudley was great in everything up until the late eighties.

I have never seen this one. I can't bring myself to watch Dudley Moore in a movie that would make me cry.

This one, like 'Lovesick', is one of the oft-forgotten 80's Dudley movies.
The less said about the it's-gonna-be-a-huge-hit 'Best Defence' the better.
