Do you guys remember any sequels announced before or after the end credits of a certain 80s flick that never saw the light of day?
I´m starting with two that i remember:
Doctor Detroit (1983)
Sequel called "The Wrath of Mom" was promised and Aykroyd was actually working on a script but for various reasons it just went on the shelf getting dusty.
The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension (1984)
A sequel called "Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League" was mentioned but never made.

Okay aTomiK I'll start of with 2 off the top of my head also.
At the end it says, We'll be back. Apparently after dismal box office returns the sequel idea was canned. It was also crtiticised for being too much like ET.It actually has 0% rating on rotten tomatoes. I actually didn't mind it when I was a kid though.
At the end of this one it promises a sequel called Tourista, but that never happened either. I was actually talking to somebody else about it on one of the other threads.

The end credits of Airplane II have an ad announcing Airplane III and Murdock saying "That's exactly what they'll be expecting us to do!" Judging by the decreased box office returns ($27,150,534 vs. the first Airplane's gross of $83,453,539), Paramount may have decided to nix that idea. Either that or the proposed sequel was meant as a joke. Keep in mind that most movies in 1982 didn't gross nine figures the way they do today, and 27 million back then was a large gross for a movie. I don't know how much Airplane II cost to make, but I'm sure the total gross was more to enough to cover the costs.
The end of History of the World: Part I promises a a part II and even shows a teaser trailer with footage of a Viking burial, "Hitler on Ice," and "Jews in Space." I think this might have also been a joke too, but then again Mel Brooks could have seriously been considering this. It grossed $31,672,907 at the box office, so it did attract a sizable audience like Airplane II. Again, the total gross was most likely big enough to cover the costs of making the movie. This is all speculation on my part, although I still wonder how good History of the World Part II and Airplane III would have been if they came to fruition.
Is there truth to the rumor that a fourth Porky's movie was scheduled? IIRC, the plot was supposed to be Pee Wee, Meat, Tommy, and the rest of the gang reuniting at an Angel Beach High School reunion. I could have sworn I read about this somewhere but would like a confirmation on whether this was actually being planned or not.

Cannon intended to make a sequel (you know why if you´ve seen the movie) but Mattel asked too much so Cannon used the already-made costumes in a VanDamme flick Cyborg.

Valley Dated Julie From 'Valley Girl' (allegedly!)

Let's start with "Tourista" .. Cindy Mancini and I have questioned for years about why it was advertised at the end of "Making The Grade", but it never came to fruition.
Well, the reality of it is the fact that "Making The Grade" underperformed at the box office and made the suits quite nervous about a possible sequel. However, Dana Olsen that played the real Palmer Woodrow did his best to keep the idea of "Tourista" alive, but even he failed to deliver an acceptable script. So as time past by, the window of opportunity for the sequel closed.
On a footnote.. I always thought it was cool that Dana Olsen wrote The 'burbs and even played a cop in the movie.

Speaking of Mel Brooks, let's not forget that Yogurt plugs Spaceballs II: The Search for More Money, which had the time frame worked out right (namely getting it done while Candy could still have done Barf, and if by chance Star Wars Episodes I-III had been made during that time) could have been just as good.

Streets of Fire was intended to be the first in a projected trilogy of action films called "The Adventures of Tom Cody" with Hill tentatively titling the two sequels, The Far City and Cody's Return. However, the film's eventual failure at the box office put an end to the project (Wikipedia).

I know this wasn't officially announced, but 'Explorers' had the classic "Here comes a sequel" ending, as did 'Innerspace'.
RE: 'Masters of the Universe'; I always thought it was 50% of a really good movie, and I think if Cannon hadn't been in serious financial trouble at the time it might've been better. Dolph Lundgren hated playing He-Man, but ironically, Frank Langella cites 'Skeletor' as one his favourite movie roles.

Logan.. I just wish "Explorers" would have done an alternate 'Second Half of the Movie' and not worry about a sequel.

Here's a sequel that has been discussed for years, but has never gotten past that point. I'm actually shocked that another Goonies flim has never been made. I know there have been several scripts presented with the last one being a scenerio where the kids from the original are now the parents.

I saw an interview with Josh Brolin about 6 months ago and he seemed certain that there was going to be a sequel and he said he would definitely be reprising his role.
But yeah it doesn't seem like anything is happening though.

The first movie to come to mind for me was Remo Williams: The Adventure Begins. The way it ended, it made you feel as though there would be a sequel, but there never was one. However there was a pilot shot for a tv show-from imdb: A TV pilot was made and aired, but never went to series. Jeffrey Meek was cast as Remo Williams and Roddy McDowall as Chiun. Craig Safan remained as the series composer.

For years they'd also been kicking around a Roger Rabbit sequel or prequel--it seems to vary given who says it--but so far it's never quite come together.

I think that's been everyone's feeling about the film from the very first showing. I once knew somebody who used to like the second half better, because before that it was just 'kids playing around with a spaceship'. There were no words good enough to express my disbelief. Then again, the same guy liked 'Phantom Menace' when it came out and told me I was wrong for thinking it sucked on every level, so what can you say?

They have maybe a few more years to get that done - which they won't - after that we'll be in '32 Candles' (or was it '36 Candles'?) territory, and it can never be made.

Brolin joked about that a lot. He still can't quite believe people love Goonies so much. He said that longer than 6 months ago I think. There was a sequel planned, Donner and Spielberg had a script and were right behind it, but the studio just wasn't interested. Ironic because Goonies has been one of their biggest DVD sellers.

I saw the interview with Brolin about 6 months ago but the footage may have been older, but yeah nothing seems to be happening. Now that I think about it, I think I saw it on youtube while he was being interviewed about his role in No Country For Old Men. So yeah, maybe I was out by about 3 years.
Yeah The Phantom Menace does suck, that's for sure but then again I dislike all the Star Wars movies, but I respect the early ones for the classics that they are according to many people.

Well, average; on its own, it's at least reasonable for me. I find it works best to hold each trilogy separately, and in that light you can find merit with the prequels within their own universe.

I think it's reasonable to hold each movie seperatley and I think each movie sucks. Just my opinion.

Terrible, on it's own or otherwise. Even if it hadn't had the 'Star Wars' mantle it would've sucked. The CGI is everywhere and shiny; the acting is leaden, dry and humourless; the script is atrocious. All the prequels sucked. The 'love' scene in 'Attack of the Clones' has to be seen to be believed. Remember; these are not ham-fisted Star Trek TV movie spin-offs, they're hundred-million-dollar movies. They sucked.

I'm with ya Logan. IMO the only space kind of show I liked was The Original Star Trek and contrary to popular belief, the appeal was not because it was in space.
It was because it was about decision making in extreme circumstances. The battle of the emotional and logical mind. The series was so well written. A genius show.
But then many other shows came along and thought if they wore plasctic face masks they could be just as good. Wrong!

Several years ago, there was talk of another sequel to "Fletch", with that 'Silent Bob' guy (can't remember his name right now) directing it. But it never happened.
And maybe that's a good thing.

I heard that as well. I believe Jason Lee was going to be Fletch. F.... that!.
You don't wanna mess with re making Fletch. It is a masterpiece.

Fletch actually gets a mention in Kevin Smith's movie Mallrats.
