Extremities is a 1986 film starring Farrah Fawcett, Alfre Woodard, Diana Scarwid and James Russo. It was adapted from the successful, yet controversial, 1982 off-Broadway play by William Mastrosimone. Farrah Fawcett had also appeared in the play to great critical acclaim, taking over a role originated by Susan Sarandon. James Russo also appeared in the play as the attacker. (Wikipedia)
This was a pretty intense thriller. Russo plays a really sick character and also Fawcett goes crazy after being tortured by him. She received a 1986 Golden Globe nomination for "Best Actress in a Drama"
I loved the opening scene, it´s pure 80s magic including the awesome Bonnie Raitt tune. Check it out:

I have seen it. It is very grim, though very well acted. It would make a terrible date movie.

Farrah Fawcett spent the 70's as a sex symbol that wanted to prove that she could act as well. The movie "The Burning Bed" was her break through role into acceptance as an actress and "Extremities" proved that it was not fluke.
Both movies deal with tricky subject matter and are quite depressing in my opinion.
THat opening sequence makes me want to watch this movie again.

Wasn't Farrah considered something of a relic at the time? I remember the cover very well, but I don't recall this being a hit.

I just watched this. Found the first half quite stressful. I didn't think the second half was handled the best, caused it to be a bit unintentionally funny at times. Still a decent watch however.
