It's too hard to pick just one, but I might have to say Dale Cooper from "Twin Peaks."

Yeah, one of my faves Watched the series through 7 times I think since its original airing. Lucas is such a *******. Gary Cole really was great in that role, some of the lines he had to say and his expressions just crack me up something rotten

Gary Cole is always great, in everything--movies, TV, heck his cartoon voice work is great. Have you ever seen the forgotten 80's TV gem that he was in "Midnight Caller"? Just a terrific series that is still not out on DVD...

Helen S.- great pick! "Maybe you oughtta lay off a little of the cholesteroooollll". lmao.
My favorite would be Tommy Gavin from Rescue Me, because we have so much in common- disfunctional family, likes to drink, etc.

Far too many great characters to single them out - and I doubt my favorites will be from the 80s, but here's a very abridged list:
Lt. Reginald Barclay (Star Trek The Next Generation). This is exactly how we would act, faced with such technology.
Latka Gravas (Taxi). Just a wonderful performance by Andy Kaufman.
Howard Cunningham (Happy Days). Utterly convincing, he always knew that despite his position in the family, he wasn't in any sort of control.

If the moderators would prefer this thread stay 80s, then my alternate choice would be Bull Shannon, a wonderfully entertaining, complex creation.

There are so many... but if i can say two of them... it would probably be: Larry Appleton and Balki Bartokomous from Perfect Strangers.

Well, if we're talking of all time. I think my pick would have to be Lucy Ricardo "I Love Lucy." I mean, she's the queen of comedy. Come On. And still very funny.
But if we're talking just from the 80's. Then I'd say both Larry Appleton & Balki Bartokomous from "Perfect Strangers" would share the crown on my list. What can I say? I loved watching sitcoms growing up.
