I normally try not to vent about personal stuff but need to get this off my chest, so here goes.
My school has two talent shows every year to raise money for our end of the year trip. Everyone comes and has a good tme, blah blah blah. This year three of the other teachers and I dressed up as Kiss and did Rock n Roll All Night. Everyone loved it, and the only complaints we had were from people who said we should've done two songs.
So imagine our surprise yesterday morning when our principal comes to tell us that one of the grandparents (who is also preacher at a local church) came to complain that we were immoral, satanic, bad role models, we scared the children (bullsh!t...they loved us) etc., etc., and that she was so offended she almost left and that her church discussed us during Sunday's service.
Okay, first of all, if any of us thought that there was anything remotely offensive about our act we never would've done it. As I told our principal (who saw nothing wrong with what we did, BTW) it's not like we did a Marilyn Manson song, hung up an upside down crucifix and lit the flag on fire. Also, if we were all she had to talk about at church I'm glad I don't go to her church....that's being hypocritical, if you ask me.
It just irritates me that she wouldn't come to any of us, and that she waited until Monday to come complain. Parents complain when we don't do stuff for the kids and now they are if we DO do stuff for the kids. But anyway, just needed to vent about this, and now I feel better.

sorry to hear about this petty. i think it was definitely a great cause and you all definitely looked great dressed up! people will find a way to complain about the smallest of issues and make something out of nothing. perhaps she was really offended but as long as you had the principle on your side, which it sounds like so... then try not to let it get to you. a lot of people will stick to over-dramatizing something to make it seem like the big deal they want to make it, which was probably why she mentioned that it was discussed at her church. you can't please everybody. and there will always be someone who has to play the "party pooper".
as long as the kids loved it, and you all had fun, try to brush it off.

Some people like to complain because they have no joy in their own lives and it makes them feel big to make others as miserable as they are.
The silly old biddy (a "wowser" as we would call her here) totally needs someone to build her a bridge - so she can get over it!
The key factor is that she waited to complain - she needed encouragement from others (or more likely needed others to tell her how she should think), and the "encouragement" probably came from people who weren't even there.

Teachers dressed as Kiss??????????..........that sounds like my kinda school.
Some people just have nothing better to do than rain on other peoples parades...she obviously has a very boring, mundane life and is devoid of any sense of humour or sense of fun. I say say..good on you for doing it and don't let kill joys like churchy la femme ruin it for you, the kids or the fundraising (good cause) you were doing it for in the first place.

Pettyfan: Judging by your post and the words in it, I have come to the conclusion that you are a Satan worshiper and that the woman was totally justified for calling you out. I declare this thread to be unfit for children and everyone who posts in it to be immoral.
Damn! Hoist by my own petard!
Next time you should dress as Mary and sing 'Like a Virgin'.
Or, if you want to be subtle; dress as Liberace and sing 'It's Raining Men'.

pettyfan, that woman sounds like she has mental problems. Or maybe she was just jealous that you and the other teachers whipped the crowd into a frenzy, and all she can do is whine and complain. She isprobably hurting for parishioners, and thought this was a good way to go about recruiting. BTW, is she from one of those Alliance churches, where they claim to be "born again" and that they are the first in line into heaven? My brother-in-law and his entire family belong to one of those churches, and I've never seen such a bunch of hypocrites in my life. They're preaching the bible in one hand while stabbing you in the back with a knife in the other. Anyhoo, I saw your pics and you and the other Teachers looked awesome, and I would bet that it was a whole lotta fun for the students and faculty!

I think it's one of the real big holy-roller, speaking in tongues churches.

OK...that was uncalled for. The thing that bothers me the most about this stuff is thinking about the kids of people like this. They have little chance to form any thoughts of their own, their days are super structured with no room for imagination and fun...their heads are just drilled with these ridiculus beliefs. They grow up the same because they don't know any different....to ensure that, they are typically home schooled. Anyway...there's nothing wrong with your parents trying to instill their beliefs in you...that's just life. But as you get older and start to explore the world and gain independence, you start to form your own beliefs. Sad if you ask me. Way to stick up for yourself petty....

Reminder to all - if you want to vent about one woman and one situation, fine. Please don't turn this thread into an anti-religious or anti-christian rant - because that won't be allowed, in the same way that any thread attacking anyone will not be allowed.
Tolerance, people, which lest I need to remind you is the self same trait that you're accusing this woman and her church members of not displaying.
Thanks

Most unfortunately, Jay Lee, there still certainly are. Just look at the way that American moralists together with televangelists such as Oral Roberts, Jimmy Swaggart, Jerry Falwell, Jim and Tammy Bakker carried on about AC\DC, such as their name's supposed connotations, and then the tripe that exploded when they were linked to serial murderer Richard Ramirez, even though like the Beatles' "White Album," AC/DC's music contains nothing to incite a sane mind to violence.

LOL, Sam, she didn't. After all the mess she said she was really glad she didn't paint red down her mouth like she was bleeding.
