Some shows go out with a whimper, others go out with a bang. What final episodes do you guys remember the best?
I loved MASH when I was a kid, and on the day of the final episode, I got in troule with my folks and was banned from watching it! It wasn't until about 5 years ago that I finally saw it.
I remember watching the final episode of Newhart, when Bob went to sleep in his bed, only to wake up in the bedroom from his previous sitcom - the entire 8 year run of the show had been a dream!
There are some shows where I can't remember the final episodes, I've been trying to remember the ways that The Cosby Show and Family Ties ended...

Twin Peaks, the most brilliant and frustrating end ever: "How's Annie? How’s Annie??? HA HA HA HA HA HA" David Lynch: the maniac, the genius, the coif.
I reckon that shows which get axed suddenly try and come up with the most memorable finales, 'American Gothic' wrapped it up with some style: "Get thee behind me".
'Cheers' was surprisingly downbeat, with Sam closing up for the last time.

Twin Peaks by far. And The Sopranos because it was one of the worst endings in t.v. history IMO........

With the Cosby Show, Theo graduated and they found out Denise was pregnant.
My favorite finale was The Wonder Years (big surprise huh). It was so sad...I liked how they flashed ahead a few years and let you know what happened, like Jack dying. The Frasier finale was pretty good too as was Living Single.

I kinda liked it. They did rush it a bit because they were up against a deadline. Could have been better if they had more time though.

I might be wrong, but I think it was "Where's Annie?"
I've got American Gothic on DVD but I haven't had a chance to watch it yet. It was such a good show, it had a few more years left in it. Shame about the ratings.

The Seinfeld ending was friggin' genius! These self involved neurotics finally had to pay for their years inconsiderate behaviour... it was the perfect ending! And then they closed with the convo about the second button, which was one of their first convo's in the pilot! Brilliant!

The final episode of Quantum leap was much anticipated and was a total let down....I was about 15 and didn't get it.

It sounds like you were a "real" fan of the show. I watched it occasionally. I guess a real fan of the show would have appreciated it more.

When I saw this post the first one that came to mind for me was "Cheers". I love the endings where you are left with a feeling that things will still go on. I haven't seen ER finale yet but I did see the ending and it looks to me like that is what they did also.

Battlestar Galactice (new series) had such a fantastic finale that I have watched it 3 times already.
Perfect ending to probably one of the best sci-fi shows ever to grace the television screen (after Firefly of course!).

I feel too many shows try too hard to tie up all the loose ends for their finales. I like the finales where you have the feeling that life continued to march on after the last episode aired.
I hate it when all of a sudden the show decides to end so
Mom & Dad move away
Oldest Kid gets an incredibile job in New York
Middle Kid gets married
Youngest kid goes away to college
All at the same freaking time. Those endings always look too rushed and lame to me.

I also want to add that shows that end that way are usually the same shows that hung around for one or two years longer than they should have.

Huge fan! I watched every episode countless times, and I never get tired of it! Best sitcom ever made. I have an astounding array of Seinfeld quotes that annoy my friends to no end, since they have (for the most part) no idea what the hell im talking about!

There was an Aussie sitcom in the 80's/90's called "Hey Dad" that ended with the cast being held hostage by a bank robber in their house... then when they were freed they relaxed by playing a videotape - which was actually a timebomb, which exploded in the final second of the show!
