I do it more for fun, about twice a week I get a few 2$ tickets and try to pick which NHL teams will win lose or tie. Haven't won anything yet although I've come real close, it seems to give me more interest in watching the games. I know my limits, but I've come across a few people in my life including a close relative who took it way too far.
Do you guys play loto or powerball a lot or even bingo? Ever win anything? Do you know others who took it too far? I just hope with the gloomy economic forecast the get rich fast temptation doesn't prey on people trying to get out of a financial hole.

We have groups at work too, it's always a dream I visualise where hard working kin show up in limos after winning the jackpot, making some of the bosses nervous that half their workforce just walked out.
I already pay a lot of taxes, so I think paying even more to the government through gambling kind of discourages me from getting too enthusiastic about it.

I must admit that I love gambling. It's actually in the bloodline of my family I think. I rarely play the lottery though. Some scratch-offs here and there. Most I won on one was $500. Also love going to casinos. Dice is my game of choice. I used to go way overboard at times with my gambling, but can't afford that way off life anymore. Most I hit was $5000 at the casino. We are a competitive bunch as well, so we usually have something on the line at whatever event or sport we have going on.

I have a friend who is always buying those scratch off tickets. I don't think she's ever won more than maybe $10-$20. What a waste. I like when we go to Vegas- I prefer the poker machines. Your odds on winning are best on the poker machines. I've never won anything more than maybe $40, but my hubby won $700 one time. As soon as I start losing my allotted amount of money, I quit. We allot a certain amount to play with each day that we are there. But sometimes my hubby wants to give me some more money to play with, and I tell him no, there has to be a cutoff point.

Play the lottery sometimes, rarely nowadays. I'm usually right about the boxing results, though: and there is some skill to choosing a winner but lets just put it this way: Omar Shariff was cleaned out by casinos who'd pay him to attend because they knew he was such a high roller. Omar Shariff had one of the longest winning steaks ever, but that's gambling: every other addiction will kill you eventually but the degenerate gambler neither lives or dies, but is broken down, kept on life support, revived just long enough to feed his/her delusions of making a comeback.
So, based on that, I guess you could say I don't think its a good thing...

I have 3 Powerball tickets beside me, that are not a winner. Bummer. We occassionally play the lottery. I love Scratch Tickets, I give them out at Christmas all the time, and I love getting them. The most I ever won was $40.
My husband won almost $500 last superbowl on a football pool. He actually has won many times doing that.
He and Valley actually won together once. I can't even remember how much it was for, but I think it was close to $400.
I had never been to a casino, up until I went last year with CindyMancini and our other friend.
We took the change we had leftover from our supper, which was like $5, and we played it in the slot machine...we cashed out when we won $40, and we bought a bunch of desserts and went home and watched movies and pigged out.
I love Bingo- I don't know if that counts.
I don't like to lose money, so if I lost over $100, I'd quit playing. I have never had any desire to go to Las Vegas. Mostly everyone I know has been there and loves it- but mainly for the shows more than gambling.

Back in 1994 when I was still living in Minnesota I won $500 on a scratch off game and then two weeks later I won $10,000 playing another scratch off game.

I'm not a big gambler...a scratch ticket once in a while, and I buy lotto tickets only when I hear people talking about a really big pot. Once or twice a year me and some buddies get together to play poker. We each go willing to lose a maximum of $50 bucks, so with 10 or so players, you can actually leave with a good chunk of change...and nobody loses their shirt. It's worth the $50 just for the good time...lots of beers and good food...really fun.
Can grab hold of some people though...one of my wife's good friends was recently separated from her husband, due to his gambling....a really good guy, but unable to break the habit....they have a three year old little girl which makes it worse.
I wonder about addictive personalities...it seems that people who actually have a gambling problem...almost always seem to be heavy smokers and drinkers...gotta be a connection there somewhere.....
19 is the legal age in Canada.

Never loved Gambling. I will do super bowl pools, because it's one expense. In 2004, I was part of a bunch of people that won the famed "Jody's" pool on Staten Island. I try never to go to AC. I don't have that kind of money and I work too hard to put it towards nothing.
