We've been going through a bit of a heatwave here this week. It's been worse down in Melbourne (about 3 hours south of here where it's usually cooler ironically) - unfortunately we've been in Melbourne since Wednesday when the heatwave started bigtime.
There have been 3 consecutive days of 44 celcius (111 F), and it's only getting hotter each day. Some areas, like the suburb we were staying in, actually reached 47 C (116 F). The coolest it's reached overnight has been 30C (86F).
It's so hot that many suburbs have lost power because the suppliers can't cope with the extra use from air conditioners, and there has been major chaos in the public transport system as the heat has buckled a good proportion of tram and train lines, meaning hundreds of trains have been cancelled and delayed over the past few days.
We were in the city centre last night for a birthday dinner, and there were so many people walking around the streets. All the cafes were open and packed out. It was still 36C (97F) at midnight last night!
But one good thing came out of it - I had my first swim in the ocean! It was so good... colder than I expected, and much saltier than I expected too!

I just got a message from my Mum on Facebook, it reached 48.7C this afternoon (120 F). Definately the hottest it's ever been here.
I was in the sun for about 20 minutes and got a terrible sunburn across my shoulders. It's just not safe to go outside anymore.

It's getting worse here in Oz now. Two thirds of the state of Queensland has been declared a disaster zone after major flooding.
To put it in perspective, the disaster area is about the size of Texas.

Maybe I should sell some heat on eBay, do you think I'd have a market? Perhaps a jar full of hot air. I could produce it myself!
