I had the shock of my life today when I passed by a favorite record store I had been going to for 10 years and noticed it was all closed up. I knew the owner very well and was last there in late December. It's like the end of an era. I had such good times there talking music and picking up so much vintage 80's vinyl, tapes and cassette. The past year I didn't go there as often as I used to because I would always end up spending too much.
I hope maybe I will run into the owner again, and hope he relocates. This happen to anyone else's favorite stores?

Well, Goody's is closing. For all the employees it's a bad thing but for me it's probably a very good thing. Now I won't buy so many clothes and I may actually get one credit card paid off!

What blew me away was hearing that the Virgin Megastore in New York will be closing it's doors in April. I don't know if that is due to downloading or the recession or maybe a combination of both.

I visited a mall during the holidays that used to be so booming even up to a few years ago. I didn't recognize any of the stores that were still left, very sad indeed.

My dry cleaner closed, so I had to go to a different one....and they ruined my comforter-so I had to go threaten them with bodily harm if they didn't fix it- it was brand new- and they shrunk it and all the stuffing got crunched down to nothing....they are buying me a new one. But, now I have no idea where to go to, because there's no other place around here.
A restaurant that I use to love that was in a town I use to live in, it closed up.
It's a bummer.
I am glad I opened my business when I did, because now I am already semi established, and have alot of repeat people coming every year, and I know with as bad as things are...no other businesses are coming in like mine...and there are only a few other B & B's near me, and 1 is for sale and another one was sold- and they didn't open it as a B & B.

We had an old vintage diner that was in town since the 60's...I remember going there with my Grandfather....they not only closed it down a while back...they tore it down. I was very sad indeed...

Tons of stores are closing down in my area....Rite Aid Pharmacy and a Video Store, just to name a couple. It's not only the economy that's doing it, all the online stores, Amazon, Ebay, etc.....cheaper prices. I buy almost everything online myself. Gotta save a buck or two whenever I can.

Ebay is in trouble now too. Their stock was up to $38/share. Now it's down to $13/share. That's not good. No one is buying or selling. I'll tellya what, their fees were getting outrageous. After you listed one item to start selling at like $25, you had racked up $4-$5 in fees for the listing, pictures etc. If I didn't put in a lot of pictures of an item, I would get 30 questions about it, and they were all stupid questions- stuff that was already in my long and detailed description. So I decided to just put up 2 pictures of an item from now on, and then if they need more, I'll email it to them. Then you get the guy who is selling a piece of junk, literally,and says "this is a hammer" and that is it, in his description, and it's all rusted and about to fall apart. He gets no questions, and it sells for $100! I think all of the Rite Aids will shut down. The said if they didn't have a good Christmas, they were going to probably close their doors.

I agree with the ebay. Their fees for selling are getting out of control. I used to sell alot of stuff on there and boy do they take a hefty chunk out of your pocket.

I still haven't tried the ebay thing yet, but, I hear it's ridicules. Maybe some other site? Where else can you sell stuff? ioffer.com...

I've noticed the past few years, stuff on e-bay has declined a bit, now I know why. I guess this happens to all of these so-called monopolies, when people get tired of getting jerked.

Parts of Home Depot are laying off people. There are 7,000 more people out of jobs.
I have no idea where everyone is suppose to go now for jobs. That is scary.
Everyone will be on welfare, and the people who are lucky enough to have a job- will be the ones getting taxed more and more to cover all the people being pushed on to welfare.

A couple of mom and pop record stores I used to frequent are now closing. Both of them were in separate malls. The owners both told me that the malls kept increasing rent and as a result they couldn't afford to stay in business anymore. Don't get me wrong I know the economy is bad but at the same time isn't the media pretty much talking us into a depression daily? And as far as people losing homes go I truly feel for them as I know of several people and my heart goes out to everyone whose had to deal with this. But there again, I think some of the problem lies within people trying to live within their means. Common sense says if you make $40,000 a year you don't go out and buy a $400,000 house unless your rich already or your significant other is in a prospering career and/or rich. There again though I blame the mortgage companies as well especially with even offering adjustable rate mortgages where a lot of folks have gotten in trouble. Just because Bill and Jane Jones has a $400,000 house and buy new cars every year doesn't mean you have to as well. The local news here daily begins with, "And today____________ lays off 500 people." This causes those who still have jobs and money to be afraid to spend on anything. The media believes they are helping (they never do) but it's really a double edged sword.......

All the record store chains were failing when the economy was strong, so I don't think that's a new phenomenon.
