We got it for my son for Christmas...he knew he was getting it, because he kept calling Gamestop every day to see if they got any in...they had 1 in the other day...so we just went and got it. I let him try it out, because it has alot of defects in it.
But, I like alot of the music that's on it...there's alot of 80s stuff...like:
Hot For Teacher-Van Halen
Beat it-Michael Jackson
Rebel Yell-Billy Idol
No sleep till Brooklyn-The Beasties Boys
Livin on a Prayer-Bon Jovi
There's some good 70's too like:
Do it Again-Steely Dan
Band on the Run-Paul McCartney and Wings
Hotel California-The Eagles
American Woman-The Guess Who

How do the drums and guitar compare to the Rock Band kit?
I'm getting the game but not the instruments but would like to hear an opinion on the best and worst.

My son says...they are way better...they are force sensitive, you only have to lightly tap the drums- they don't make as much noise. They are more realistic, because the new one has symbols, the foot pedal has better response. The strum bar on the guitar is better made- it's not rubber. The sliding touch pad helps with hard solos. The design is alot better. Hope that helps you out.

Maybe I'll invest in the kit in the New Year. I'll see how I get on using the Rock Band Instruments first.

My son is going to send his back...it has been doing all kinds of weird stuff....he found out that there are alot of defects with it. So, I'd hold off at getting it until they fix all the bugs with it.
The thing with these video games and stuff...is that they don't release reviews on them until after the stuff has been out on the market for a long time. I got my son the games "Prince of Persia" and "Animal Crossing"...he just finally found reviews for them, and they rated them very low, and the Prince of Persia one, is suppose to be really easy to beat.
That bothers me so bad...because these games cost $60- $80, and my son can conquer them in 2 days, and then he's done with them. It took them 3 years to develop some of these games, and you can beat them in 2 days- that's stupid.
I told my son...I still can't beat Pac-Man or Frogger...I can't get past level 4 in Frogger.
Pac-Man-I am really good at...but I can't beat it. So, how can a "game" be a game...if you play it once, and never want to play it again?

Prince of Persia - The Sands of Time, was a great game for me. Prince of Persia - Warrior Within, was one of the best games I ever played.

You should get your son to join a few gaming websites and forums. Usually you can get opinions and reviews on games long before the press reviews come out.
Thanks to a gaming forum I use I have avoided COD 5, Prince of Persia but did get the fantastic, but totally wasn't going to play them without the recommendations,Bioshock and Uncharted.

He gets 3 gaming magazines, and reads everything. He wants to be a game designer some day, he's already looking at schools out there.
We ended up taking back Guitar Hero ( because he already had Rockband anyway)...but he decided that he wanted a Playstation 3....so instead of trading the Guitar hero back for another one, they gave him a credit...and he gave back 2 games, and got the Playstation 3- which is cool by me, because I found out it has the built in Blu-Ray, and my husband wants to get a 50 inch TV ...so that means I could have like movie theater quality stuff in my house. Those Blu-Ray movies cost a small fortune though.

Here's a handy hint that a lot of people don't know. The hard drive can be easily replaced with a standard laptop 2.5" sata hard drive very cheaply. I swapped my 40GB for 320GB for around 50 English pounds. Now instead of streaming music and photos and music from my PC to the PS3 I can copy them directly to the hard drive.
