She knew because the crew guy told her...people were yelling to get him out on stage-they were booing him -they were getting mad. My friend said she only knew 1 song he did...she wasn't impressed by him at all. The crew guy said they were jerks and they just didn't feel like coming out on stage.
Every concert I have ever been to, the concert started on time.
I saw the Starship last February, and the girl that was singing in place of Grace Slick, was sitting beside me at lunch....she was with one of the crew guys...I said hi to her in the hall later on. They had been practicing all day long. If someone is a professional...they take it serious, because it is their JOB. They are getting paid. There is no reason to make people wait around as if the sun rises and sets on them performing.
Anyway...from talking to Glenn Symmonds (Eddie Money's drummer)...he told us that they don't set up their own equiptment...they don't take it down, they don't even have to tune anything...it is all done for them-that's what a stage crew does...the band comes out...and they play...and they leave.
The wedding couple was cool with them not playing their song...they actually played mostly 80s stuff at their wedding...they told me they played "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", and they played "Legs" when she did the garter belt thing...I thought that was really cool. Who said their folks were footing the bill? They both had good jobs......and had been living together for 6 months before they got married. They paid for their own wedding. But, they knew there were older people there and children who would not "appreciate" their favorite song. Which they didn't really seem to care, because I think they have heard it before then. I thought that were a really nice couple...she was 23 and he was 28...they weren't going on a honeymoon, they were saving their money to put a new roof on their house, and they said they liked it here so much that they would be back again, and be sending their parents here for their anniversary.
I talk to so many people ...because of my business, and I ask people all the time about what's going on out there in the real world...incase something's happening that I am unaware of...especially when I do get to be around younger people.
It is funny how many younger people like the 80s stuff.
I have had teenagers here that go nuts over my jukebox...because they love the music I have in it. So, I know that when something was good it stays good.
Metallica is from the 80s...they aren't a current band. Neither is KISS.
I went to see 98 Degrees with my mom- that was at least a newer band-at the time when they were out there touring...my mom loved 98 Degrees. They were actually the first concert I ever went to...in 2001.
My mom went to see Huey Lewis, The Starship and Journey with me.
I am talking who do people over 50....go see in concert now...that aren't someone from the 70s and the 80s.
Who is out there now in the music world, that has had more than 3 hit songs-(from the same artist)...in the top 10...??? Name me 1 group or 1 artist...other than Carrie Underwood. I am talking a current person, not Madonna...not Justin Timberlake.....someone who has started out..since say....2003.
I can think of maybe 1 group...that's the P-ssycat Dolls. I liked 1 song they did, and that was Sway.
Other than them....who's out there?
Miley Cyrus doesn't count....she only appeals to 18 and under.

How do you know that the crew wasn't mad? True Metallica and KISS arent new I never said they were but they have what alot of 80s artists don't: staying power. Why doesn't Myley Cyrus count? I know of kids' mothers who actually listen to her. Gwen Stefani's band No Doubt has been around for more than 5 years but Gwen didn't go solo until 2004. Why do you keep changing the criteria everytime somebody lists an artist? Here's another:
Rihanna (debut in 2005, 5 number one hits since then)

You can go to Google and type in AKON and find his chart history and see that he's had quite a few top 10 singles since he started in the pastm 5 years.

I did not change my criteria. I said all along name artists that all age groups of people can list to.
I got up this morning ...listening to the 70s again...I am talking music like The Carpenters, Captain and Tennille, KC and the Sunshine Band, Elton John, Billy Joel, Olivia Newton John, The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Tina Turner, The Commodores, The Doobie Brothers, The Bee Gees, it was never ending music out there...they had hit song after hit song, and all those artists sang all kinds of variety...from ballads to rock and roll to disco.
These people you named that are recent...sing 1 kind of music...and it does not appeal to all age groups of people. Most of the artists in the 70's...carried through the 80s.
In the 80s my mom listed to Culture Club and Foreigner and Loverboy. There were tons of different people and bands out there that had tons of hit songs.
When the song "Pocket full of Sunshine" by Natasha Bedingfield came out...I actually liked it...for about the first 2 times I heard it...now when I hear it...it gets on my nerves. It is so repetitive. I can't see that song holding up in 5 more years.
Not like how past music has ...there's music from the 70s I could listen to every day and never get sick of.

Actually, artists like Akon and Chingy sing one type of music while artists like Taylor Swift and Jason Aldean (wow!) sing another type entirely. Just wanted to clarify.

I could care less if a singer/band I like is rude or have an attitude. I like the music. It's like Sean Penn...I don't like him at all, but that didn't stop me from seeing Mystic River and really, really enjoying it.

But you said in the beginning any modern artist. I'm interested to see how it's gonna be changed later. You never mentioned an artist that sang one kind of music....

I mean those artists that you guys mentioned...only sing whatever kind of music they sing...they don't sing a broad spectrum of music.
Kevdug-I have never heard of any of those songs...but I have a feeling that I'd more willing to give them a shot since you recommend them, because I like alot of other stuff that you do, so I would try them out.
