I was thinking about when it was night time when I was a kid...me and my brother would both have to have had a bath and be in our pajamas by about 8pm at night. Every night we laid on the floor in the livingroom and watched TV. We always had to have a bowl of ice cream as a snack. I remember we use to take our ice cream and smash it up with a spoon, and stir it, until it became soft serve ice cream. I can picture us laying around watching Three's Company, or The Dukes of Hazzard or Happy Days amd Laverne and Shirley. Then we would have to go to bed.
In the summertime we stayed up all night watching movies...movies I wasn't allowed to see...like 10 to Midnight and Silent Rage, I remember we would set our alarm clocks and sneek downstairs, and turn the tv on low, and hope that my parents never came down the steps.
I have so many great memories of sitting around the TV...with my friends when they spent the night...and with my family. I remember when we would go crazy over them showing The Wizard of Oz every year. I can remember us making popcorn in the kind of popper with the dome lid, and the oil, and then you flipped it over and used it as a bowl. Remember them?
I can remember being out at my Grandparents house...with my Aunt, and we'd rent movies on Friday nights, and we made sundaes...I can picture the bowls we used and everything...we would take vanilla ice cream and Hershey's syrup and put Planters Peanuts on top of them. I always remember making my Grandpa one. I always stayed over night there...and it was the one place I totally felt safe at. I loved my Grandparents home, and everything about it. Sometimes I get really sad, because I know I never will be there ever again with them.
That's why I think I miss the 80's so so much...is because I connect my family and memories to TV.

I never had cable until I was about 10. So when a bigtime movie came on regular TV, it was a real treat.... Wizard of Oz, Superman, The Amittyville Horror, The Sound of Music, etc. Forget about when the V movies and series came on....it was like Christmas for me.

I too have a bunch of cherished memories with tv and watching with family. With my family divorcing in the 80's, my sister and I had to visit my dad in Montreal, usually on summer vacation. My dad was less strict about violent kinds of movies than mom, so that's where I was able to see stuff like First Blood, Apocalypse Now, Revenge of the Ninja, Missing in Action, Bruce Lee movies and such.
I remember what a big deal it was when I learned to tape stuff off tv in the mid 80's. That's when I would program the VCR to tape stuff way past my bedtime. I would watch all these gems such as the universal horror movies of the 30's and 40's, plus countless 80's horror and comedy films. I still have a few of those tapes and they still play! It was such a golden time for me, I remember it like yesterday,(sigh).

I still have to do this! Do you mean to tell me when you grow up you don't have to do this anymore? Man, nobody told me! All of these years....
