I watched it tonight. I remember that was a huge ritual ever year for us as kids. My brother loved Snoopy and Woodstock. I was eating some Goobers tonight...and I said to my son...If Charlie Brown ate a Goober would that be Cannibalism? I said...that would be a Peanut eating a Peanut. He said to me...Mom your nuts. Hahahaha.

I watched it last night too. I thought it was longer than it was. But again the last time I watched it was when I was little.
It was fun sharing that moment with my daughter last night.

i'll be watching it tomorrow night with my kids since we'll be out trick or treating friday night. plus the devils are on tonight and that game has priority.
and i think as far as peanuts holiday cartoons go:
christmas > halloween > thanksgiving
but all of them are great and they are definitely part of my holiday experience.

Seeing this on was a pleasant surprise indeed. It really took me back to a time in my life when Halloween was a big deal.

And kudos to ABC for making them an annual event again; the last few years CBS had Peanuts rights they seemed to stick with only Christmas (although something does seem missing without CBS's classic Special Presentation bumper proceeding the show (the spiraling rainbow-colored one that is now practically synonymous with Peanuts)). For the record, has anyone here ever tried sitting in the nearest pumpkin patch waiting for the Great Pumpkin to rise?
Come December, perhaps they'll throw in a tribute to longtime Peanuts director Bill Melendez, who passed on at 91 over the summer. It would certainly be a nice send-off to the only man Schulz trusted with his creations for 35+ years.

i still have vhs tapes from '85 when i first started recording all of the holiday cartoons(mainly christmas cartoons, but also included fat albert halloween along with peanuts cartoons). that cbs opening was such a great part of that experience. as well as the peppermint patty commercials:
when i bite into a york peppermint patty, i get the sensation of...
my wife and i grew a pumpkin patch this summer in our garden. we got about eight pumpkins, six survived, we gave two away, and now have the remaining four on our porch. we also had these huge gords but the squirrels got to them so they are no longer.

I watched this Tuesday night on TV for the first time. Strange how I missed it all these years...Charlie Brown's Christmas is one of my favs. Anyway, the "Great Pumpkin" seems to hold the same spirit as the Christmas special....loved it. It was my "act like a kid" night....I watched Fat Albert's Halloween Special and then the Great Pumkin...Garfield tonight!

Well crap I missed it too. I did, however, wear my It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown pajamas to school today, being that it was pajama day and all. I'll have to try and watch the DVD before Friday.

I took my Great Pumpkin DVD to school today, since the kids can't go out for recess unless it's 50 degrees. Most of our kids had never seen it and they loved it!

At least 18 years as far as I know, probably a little longer (perhaps the USA Cartoon Express had it one or two times I don't know about). The Christmas special at least aired a few years longer than the others.
