We all have our different tastes in music and we all like to listen to those "Classic" albums by our favourite artists. When we think of those albums we think fondly about the songs on there that make them great. Unforunately, I can't think of a single great album that doesn't have at least one duff song on it.
I'll begin with
"Master of Puppets" by Metallica. Undoubtedly the greatest metal record ever made. Why then can I not stand "The Thing That Should Not Be" on it?
So come on. Let's start naming and shaming those songs that don't belong on such fantastic albums...

The Police's "Synchronicity" album contains a track called "Mother", sung by the group's guitarist, Andy Summers. Truly hard to listen to!

Maybe The Thing Should Not Be disgusts you cuz its so slow and dirge-y while the rest of the album is fast.
And as for Mother...that song STILL would have sounded like crap even if Sting HAD sung it!

Listening to U2's War the other day, most of the album is really great with the exception of the Refugee which I always seem to skip.

Good topic, I am going to first go with the last song on Def Leppard's Hysteria, as "Love and Affection" is the worst. Thank God it was the last song on the album.

One of my all time fave Iron Maiden albums is actually Dance of Death, an absolutely brilliant return to form marred only by the really crap Journeyman.

let's face it - in these days of pick n mix downloadable tracks, who has entire albums?
That's my problem - coming up with a great album on which I can immediately identify a bad song.
I do recall that on each of the early Police albums, there was at least one track on each that jarred - either for quality purposes of that just didn't quite fit in with the tome ('Be My Girl Sally' springs to mind - fun, but it doesn't gel with the rest of a truly brilliant album)

I always liked Destroyer by KISS but the song Sweet Pain is pretty mediocre at best.
Same could also be said about KISS' self-titled debut album with the song Kissin' Time.

I figure a lot of people will disagree with me, but my vote goes for "Sweet Child O' Mine," from GnR's Appetite for Destruction ablum. Great album, but I swear I always hated that song!

p.s.paul,
You are right. People don't buy albums anymore. It's really a shame if you thin about it. How many times have you bought an album for a song you like and found out that you like more songs from the album. Or, the other songs become your favorites? I think of all of the people who are missing out on this and it's just sad!

Last year Machine Head released the awesome "The Blackening". I love the album and will probably court some controversy when I say that I'm not a huge fan of Aesthetics of Hate. Don't get me wrong, I think its a fitting tribute to Dimebag Darrell, I just don't think it sits too well on this album.

I absolutely LOVE this album, and have done since the day I bought it - 25-odd years ago.
6 of the finest tracks the band has EVER recorded - I STILL play my original vinyl on a regular basis.
......EXCEPT for the last track....'Les Boys'....which is SOOOOO bad, I'm actually close to tears just thinking about it!!
