Was wondering if anybody else besides me has taken advantage of early voting? I did my civic duty as an American this afternoon and voted. That's now 7 presidential elections that I've taken part in.

Only time I voted early was when I was in college.

I am dog sitting my friend's dog all day Tuesday while she works the polls....I am going to get up early and go vote...not sure how long of a line there will be, and what a good time to go would be.

For the last few days I have been bombarded with friends pleading to me on who to vote for....I really was undecided ...until yesterday...like I said before...I didn't know which way to go, because they are both unqualified, and it's going to be bad either way...but I can't fight all my friends and my husband anymore, so I have decided I am going to pick who I hope is the lesser of the 2 evils. I am sure I'll regret it later.

I think it stinks that we have such lousy choices.

I decided that I had to vote...it's too important not to.

Vote Barr as Libertarian if you dont like McCain or Obama. Barr doesn't stand a snowballs chance in hell of winning but at least the other 2 wont be getting your vote. It may be hard to dogsit as you may be in line half the day waiting to vote. They say its record turnouts this year everywhere......

Wow...I figured that about waiting in line, my son will dog sit while I am gone. If I am there too long...then I might say the heck with it.
I never even heard of Barr....I thought about doing just that though...who knows...when I get there...all could change.

The issue with either not voting, or voting for an obvious 'no-win' candidate, is that you are effectively passively accepting whoever actually gets in.

We have a similar (but not so extreme) situation over here in the UK - whilst there are a number of parties, and three main parties in Labour, Conservative, and Lib Democrats, the truth of the matter is that it's only ever going to be a two-horse race between Labour and the Conservatives. Voting for anyone else isn't really going to make any difference to who wins the overall election.

If you want to actually influence the outcome (or at least participate in influencing the outcome) you need to cast your vote for either McCain or Obama.

The worst part of it for an outside observer like me is seeing that there are way more downsides to either candidate than positives. and I can only see it going one way, as a 'history-making' vote, despite any actual policies or promises that are made by either party.

I'm watching the SNL presidential special right now. There's a lot at stake in this election, but gosh darn it Tina Fey just does such a good Palin impression. I'm getting the impression there's a lot of cynical voters out there.

Paul is right...it doesn't make sense to vote for someone who doesn't have a chance in winning, because it is a waste of a vote then...and you really might as well not even vote.

I have been struggling with this whole thing all day...my good friend is the assistant to our State Represenative, and she called me tonight to invite me to a party tomorrow night...but I don't go to those kind of things...she made some good points on stuff...but she told me to go with my gut on who I felt would be the best leader.

Earlier today a girl who is my friend...who I met when she came and stayed here as a guest...she just joined the military, and she called me from a huge military base in South Carolina, and she is only 19 years old, but she could get deployed to Irag after she completes basic training, which she only has a week to go with that. She says Obama will get us out of the war...and she is scared about the war. I know McCain is a huge military dude, and he doesn't want the war to end.

I don't like McCain and Palin's personal beliefs....

but I am scared that Obama has no experience, and terrorists know that...and if he is elected, they are going to do something to attack us some how....

my friend who works as an assistant state rep. said that Obama needs 4 more years...and then he should run again...at that point he will have more experience to do the job.

I think Obama is the more compassionate person....and that part I like about him...but I really am so torn over what is going to happen to small business owners. I am worried about the whole thing with social security. I am worried about the illegal alien thing.

I just think this whole thing is such a mess. I hated the debates and how they never answered questions...they just pointed the finger at each other.

Whoever gets elected tomorrow they are going to have to face the facts that there's not going to be any overnight miracles. Being deep in the hole with debt, countless problems plaguing the nation, it's a huge mess inherting the ills of the current administration. Maybe people are skeptical of his experience or what not, but you have to admit Obama can't do any worse than what's gone on the last 8 years.

Do you think McCain ran a bad campaign? Why wasn't he doing these SNL-Monday night football appearances a month ago?

Well I just got back from voting. I did something I've never done before...I wrote-in a candidate. I refused to vote for the person running for one of our county offices so I wrote-in one of his opponents from the May election. Will that keep him from winning? Nah. But I felt good about it.

I voted this morning too. I only had to stand in line about 10 minutes. I was there at 8am. I don't feel good about any of it.

I don't think Obama can do worse than what we have had for the past 8 years...but what worries me even more than that...is that it doesn't matter who wins.....I do think we are in such a bad situation right now...that I don't know how anyone can bail us out...financially...or with the war...

I think the President of the United States doesn't have that much say so anyway...but that one person takes all the heat for every bad choice made in our government.

It's not really passively accepting. It's like such and such is gonna win but at least they won't get my vote. I think it's more of a personal selection/pride thing here in the states.....

McCain made a great, classy speech in defeat. I can't believe it's almost over. Obama, Mr. President-elect.

Congratulations America!

Though it may not seem as much of a concern to us foreigners... indirectly the outcome of this election does have it’s impact for the rest of the world too.

Another course was much needed.

Please don't make the mistake of judging Obama for what he has done - cos the truth is that he's done nothing so far except run a very slick media campaign in an ideal moment in time. Americans have voted for a change, not for a Democrat or for a black man as president.

If you want to see whether this was really the right choice, then look at how history judges Obama. If he's remembered solely about who he was rather than what he did, then he will have failed. If he's remembered preiarily for his actions and achievements, rather than simply being the first african-american to hold this office, then it would have been proved a good choice. Not that McCain would have been any better, but I'm simply concerned that Obama's inexperience may still cause problems now that he's being called on to run something a little bigger than a glorified ad campaign.

For now, certainly for this observer, the jury is still out.

'Only time will tell'

You gotta at least give him the benefit of the doubt.

Bush was um… sort of experienced, but couldn’t even sum up 5 world leaders before he became president. And look at what he accomplished in 8 years of presidency – nothing but chaos. It hardly can’t get any worse than that.

Would it really matter if Obama is inexperienced? After all they have their advisors. What’s important for me right now is that Obama ‘seems’ to have his heart in the right place and shows signs of intelligence. While ‘W’ always looked and proved to be plain stupid.

Anyway, I wish him the best of luck. Cause again… however odd it sounds, this concerns us all.

Bush wasn't anywhere near as dumb as his opponents made out - they went for him the same way they have been going for Sarah Palin - make a caricature out of them early on, and anything they do (when in the media spotlight 24-7 for eight years) is gonna stick. Anyone will look bad over time under those circumstances.

After 9/11, no American would have wanted Al Gore anywhere near the White House. He was the right president for his time. he probably wasn't the best, but wasn't the worst by a long way. reagan was a surprise choice, and is now seen as a great President. Hopefully Obama will be to.

It's not a matter of giving him the benefit of the doubt - it's simply a case of he has now got the job, he's got 4 years to prove he's worthy of the trust placed in him. and given the level of trust he has been shown, he has a lot to live up to.

I have mixed feelings about everything...I hope that he does make a change...Paul's right about that. The one thing is...they have been interviewing every black person they can to see what they have to say about it, and people are saying things like...it's about time. But...really it never should matter what color skin someone has...it is if they are the best person for the job, and I think at times people go over the top in both directions with that.

My mom was so happy for Obama...she said that when she was pregnant with me...40 years ago, she had to get out of Baltimore, MD because they were rioting all over the place over civil rights...my mom said that back in the 60s you could not sit at the same counter in a diner with a black person, that they use to make them use seperate entrances..and I guess I never realized how bad it was...because 40 years isn't that long ago. Now..I have never been a vicitim of racism and I have no idea how awful that would feel....so on one hand I do feel like it is time we had a black president...because there never should have ever been a problem with that before....but it has to be based on wether he is qualified or not.

I do think we need a young strong man...who is tough enough to deal with this mess..but who still has compassion for people. That's the part about him that I hope is his best attribute.

I was really glad to see Hillary and Bill Clinton being so supportive of him. Bill Clinton is going to be the Treasury Advisor...I liked Bill Clinton, and thought he did a good job as president, so I am happy that Obama is being very selective about who he is picking to be on his team.

I really think Sarah Palin hurt McCain alot. Nobody wanted to see her be president if something happened to McCain.

We just all have to sit back and see what happens, and hope that the people made the right choice. That's the good thing about only being able to have that job 4 years...but the other thing is... you can do alot of damage in that amount of time...look at what we have been through already...so I feel like TKO...give him a chance, it can't be worse than what we have had.

And that's exactly what I was talking about above - people see the caricature of Palin that the media (fed by the Obama campain team) created - and not the person. Same as Bush - the Edwards team last time out tried to paint him as this loser idiot who couldn't be trusted to sit the right way on a lavatory seat, and in their case it didn't work. But the image of him as a figure of fun rather than a sensible politician stuck.

Yes Obama needs to be given a chance, and yes I hope he is able to deliver. But given the hype and stature that his campaign team have endowed him with, he's been set up for one hell of a fall if he proves unworthy of people's trust.

I'm glad that we were able to elect a clear-cut decisive winner and not suffer the same debacle that we did back in 2000 when Gore won the popular vote but lsot the presidency due to the electoral vote.
