I was wondering because I know a lot of us on here have huge movie collections........Do you loan movies to your friends?
I got hesitate awhile back after I never got Dazed and Confused back and someone lost a video of my Sex and the City set!! How does that happen?? haha
Last week a guy at work was talking about how his girlfriend wanted to watch Paper Moon......it's one of my favorite movies.......in the top favs.......so I loaned him my vhs, they loved it and he couldn't stop quoting and talking about how great the movie was......now another girl at work borrowed my movie and I can't wait for her review of one of my all time favorite movies.......anyway just wondered if you guys are movie hoarders or loaners??

Like you, I have loaned and lost... Particularly music actually. I think there's a better chance of getting movies back...

Better to have loaned and lost, than never to have loaned at all....?

I have loaned and lost movies too, or it has taken a year to get them back. My one friend has 2 of my movies now, and the 1st Season of Soap...but I know she's watching it...she just is busy, and it is taking her awhile.

This only happned to me once. There were two girls I worked with and one had a crush on Christian Slater. She used to watch UNTAMED HEART over and over and over again (would bring the movie to my place and watch it THERE too!) I had TRUE ROMANCE so I lent it to her and when she gave it back to me the next day (she didn't like it as much as UNTAMED HEART) the OTHER girl I was friends with said "Can I borrow it?" and I said "Sure". And I never saw that VHS tape again!
Now what struck me as odd is...you'd think out of the two of them the one with the hots for Christian Slater would have pilferred the tape!
A few weeks ago one of my daughters friends who is 13 found out I had ll theFUTURAMA DVDs and asked to borrow them. I was like "Uh oh" - but what are ya gonna do - so I said "Yeah" and she said "When should I give them back?" and I said "Oh keep 'em as long as you like" cuz there were a lot of seasons and I knew it would take her a long time to watch them. She skipped over a few (ones she'd seen before) and had the whole set back in my hands THREE DAYS LATER! Now THATS a good friend/borrower! I think she was worried something would happen to them or I'd get mad and never lend again. Now I know she's got a good track record and I WILL lend again.
Pity that a 13 year old knew how to act and a grown up didn't!

I only loan my movies out to certain people... I also lost alot of flicks that way. I only have two simple rules... you lose... you die! you break... you die!
My cousin once borrowed this really rare movie from me, and then left on a hot radiator!!!!! I mean, come on! he couldn't replace it, cuz it was out of production. So instead we drank some beers, and I got to punch him in the face as hard as I could... im not gonna lie... it felt good. But I still don't have that movie though:(

Paul that was pretty funny........cheesy and funny!
I knew you guys would be like me.......Mama thats great that the 13 year old had more decency.
.........my movies are my "collection".......it's the one thing I pride my self in finding.........and i'm the type that freaks if I have something of someone else's too long.
Noms I like your idea of just offering a copy....
Isn't it weird you almost feel suckered in when someone asks........your inner voice does the whole "oh mannnnnnn noooooooo never" and then somehow it comes out all slow "ooooook I'll loan you my hard to find copy of....." "noooooooo!!!"

I used to be a bigtime loaner.....haha, get it? Not just movies, but anything someone wanted to borrow.
I too, have loaned and lost though. I much prefer to burn copies and give them away. Same with music....love sharing it. I'll burn movies, CDs or send mp3s to anyone who asks. Sometimes even if they don't ask.

You NEVER lend Criterion, its one of the rules; I'd only consider loaning pretenious remastered French films to like minded buffs or French film actresses: 'Discret Charm Of The Bourgeosie' anyone?...what do you mean 'Live Free Or Die Hard'?...philisties

Yes, I've loaned, some people take it upon themselves to presume that just because I've bought the special edition of 'Dogma' means I don't want my region 2 version back. What a ****ing liberty! Seriously...I want my region 2 version back, its got different extras damnit

About 15 years ago I loaned an imported book to a coworker... and I've not seen it since. The book went into detail about every recording session The Beatles ever had, and talked about how different sounds were created, the different takes recorded, even conversations and disagreements that happened, really special stuff like that (well, special to me anyway). I've tried for years to find it again, even on Amazon but it doesn't seem to exist!

Now music? I would just as soon burn someone a copy.
I take my movies very seriously and they are all alphabetized and kept in pristine condition in their "home" and I DO get that "If this person steals this I will have to move all the other discs around so there is not the "one disc missing" gap!" feeling of whoa - but who wants to be thought STINGY????? so we say "okay" anyway when someone wants to borrow.
I think a good New Rule would be trade-off lending. If someone borrows one of YOUR babys you get to hold one of THEIRS as collateral!

Nothing worse than having them alphabatized and getting that new movie that won't fit onto the shelf and having to move them all down a notch. I feel like Rainman talking about something like this.....

I very rarely lend a DVD to my brother and make sure I get it right back. Never to my sister because I'll never see it again. Hey, that's why we have blockbuster video and netflicks...

He reluctantly borrowed my CHRISTIANE F,cuz his girlfriend wanted to see it. And I told him that it was the same deal as last time, if something happened to it. I got it back three days later:)
