I saw where they said that Kim Kardashian is going to be on the new season of Dancing with the Stars. I can not stand her at all, and if she really is on it...it might kill it for me. I think she is such a waste of space on TV.
There has been a clip being played over and over again that Anderson Cooper talks about Living Lohan.....I love this clip....I want to write Anderson Cooper and tell him I am now a huge fan of his, just because what he says here:

Yep, Kim is indeed going to be a contestant on the next season of DWTS. You are going to have to hope she gets voted off as early as possible!
I also noticed that Cloris Leachman is also going to be on the show too, even though she's 82 years old!
Ted McGinley has also been mentioned as a contestant. Considering that he has been on lots of TV series that shortly went downhill after he appeared on it, maybe the show will be cancelled after this season!
If you don't know what I mean, I'm referring to the "Ted McGinley Curse" from the website, JumpTheShark.com, where he usually appears on the TV shows that are on its decline.

I remember Cloris Leachman too....she has to be the oldest person they have had yet.
Someone seriously is going to die on that show.
They have had Marie Osmond collapse/faint....and numerous injuries, and people getting food poisoning....if Ted Mcginley has a curse along with him...then they really are doomed.
Why could they not put Meredith Salenger on there instead of Kim Kardashian. Meredith really wanted on too.

that curse of ted mcginley must have skipped married with children because that show was great and dare i say better with ted. he was not only great on that show, i may even have liked him a little more than steve.
kim k is a nobody who has to do crap like this to justify her being any sort of celeb. she's easy on the eyes but i could do without ever hearing about her again. i don't watch reality tv so i don't care what she does on this dancing show.

The biggest problem with Kim K for me is that her whole celeb schtick came from a sex tape. Sure her father was famous in the OJ case, but I guess this is the new instant celeb/TMZ era. Remember when people had to work hard to break into the industry? I don't want to sound like an old stick in the mud, but these days buying old TV shows/retro movies saves me the time of sifting through more new shows I don't want to see.

I don't know much about Kim Kardashian, just that she's Reggie Bush's girlfriend and is on that show Keeping Up With the Kardashians. I've never been a fan of Lindsay Lohan...I liked Mean Girls and she was okay in Herbie, but that was it. I've always felt (and I know many won't agree with me) that some of the stuff that she did...drunk driving, drugs, etc., was just as bad or worse than what Paris Hilton did, but Paris got sent to jail and Lindsay got off with a much lighter punishment. Oh well, just my opinion.

Even if she is a nobody she is mighty easy on the eyes (alot hotter than Meredith). What all are they known for? That's a mighty vague and wide assumption I'm assuming your about to make which will pretty much generalize every new celebrity woman. C'mon c'mon what is it?partying?sex tapes?

I'll change the subject right now before this thread blows up like so many others have.
I'll chime in on xchazx and Muffy's comments on sitcoms....yes bring them back if they are as brilliant as Married with Children and Seinfeld (my 2 favorite comedies of all time.) Enough of this reality show garbage.....some are not bad, but most are just a waste of air time. In my opinion that is.

When I said ALL....I meant all the ones that were mentioned on this thread already...
I am all for them bringing back Sitcoms...like The Facts of Life, Bosom Buddies, Silver Spoons, and Double Trouble....that would be great...but I don't see it happening.

The problem with Reality TV is yeah, SOME people like it...but there are also some of us who DONT. Where are the options? I find myself buying box sets of The Oldies like HAPPY DAYS, THE ODD COUPLE and such because tehre is really nothing on TV I want to watch except for THE SIMPSONS.
I used to love reading gossip rags and watching shows like TMZ but now- its like "Who ARE these people???" They are "celebrities" for doing nothing or being on a Reality TV show. I am tired of picking up a magazine and seeing people from THE HILLS or whatever in there. It's like "Why should THEY be on the cover and not, say Sean Connery...or someone like that who actually has paid his dues! Hahaha.
I have never seen the Lohan Show but from what I understand Lindsay - the only Lohan worth mention - isnt even ON it! Who the Hell wants to follow her sister and mother around? What makes them celbrities? Its like me telling you I'm going to see MADONNA's sister sing! Unless MADONNA was gonna show up WHO'D CARE????

What I hate most is how the entire Hollywood community constantly reinforces all this trashy low-class behavior. If you carry on like a drugged-up mess, a maniac or a prostitute, you end up getting your own TV show, movie parts and spokemanship deals. Look at Paris Hilton. She has absolutely no talent as an actress or singer, and no charismatic personality to speak of. But she stumbles out of a few clubs drunk and flashes the papparazi, makes a couple home-made pornos and gets into a few catfights with other obnoxious halfwit celebs and - presto! - she's offered the sun and moon. On the other hand people who work hard, hone their craft, and conduct themselves with the utmost professionalism and class, have to take a backseat. Not to mention the message they're sending to young women: if you want attention and success - whore it up. They've been packaging and selling that false message to little girls since Britney Spears first came on the scene. I find it reprehensible.

Journey and Mamamia-that's exactly what I mean...If I say the same things...people jump on me...because that's exactly how I feel. I am so tired of there being nothing but garbage on TV...and it's true about women like Paris- she isn't even good looking either...there are tons of gorgeous women out there...who don't flash everything they own to everyone. I always found that to be so gross...that total strangers know every square inch of someone's else body that they don't even know.
Think about the behavior that celebrities get away with...and you think about yourself...and if you did those things...what would people say? I can really see myself staggering all over my town drunk, with my shirt hanging off...as if...
Journey is so right...that they get paid a ton of money for acting like pigs. Paris was given a ton of money just to show up a party at a club...and she was given a commercial for some hamburger place....and it was totally disgusting...it was like the owner of the company had a crush on her...and figured if he dangled enough money in front of her...he'd get his own video of her half naked. And he did.
They can't even form a complete sentence.
That's the thing that drives me crazy about certain women....guys think they are hot to look at-so they give them money-...but underneath all the make-up and fake hair, and fake fingernails, and fake body parts- what kind of person are they...and the utter self centered stuff they do...with the money they spend on stupid purses for their dogs...could feed a poor family for an entire year-but do they care?
That's what TV has become. And then you have all the photographers getting rich off these people with no talent. It is so sad.
I think about it all the time, about where we go to from here.

People like Kim Kardashian, Paris Hilton, Britney Spears, etc. are simply just "famous for being famous."
Nothing new about that, though. Just a newer and younger generation has adopted the old showbiz philosophy that "Any publicity is good publicity. There is no such thing as 'bad' publicity."
I remember Zsa Zsa Gabor getting in trouble for hitting a police officer, and her showbiz "career" has long since faded out decades before. She got a lot of breaks simply because of her diva attitude and celebrity status.
I'm not saying all young celebrities are acting badly, it's just that the ones you hear about get all the attention if they are out nightclubbing, getting arrested for DUI, going to rehab, buying multimillion dollar homes or condos they don't need (or won't live in), gambling at the Las Vegas tables, etc. They wouldn't be doing that if they weren't in showbiz or born into a wealthy family (such as Kim or Paris).
The reason why you hear more about today's young celebs --- when you compare them to earlier decades --- is that there are more entertainment news outlets, cable channels, paparazzi, and gossip blogs than ever before. And it's getting to be more and more competitive. And since the young kids don't have very much applicable work skills in the "real" world, they might as well milk all the publicity for what it's worth until the public or the media no longer cares about them.
Speaking of the media...
In 1974, the first "People" magazine came out, and started a wave of lightweight journalism that persists to this day. The stuff you see nowadays being reported in the entertainment section, sometimes are now the leading news story. That would never happen in the days when Walter Cronkite was anchoring the news! I mean, can you imagine the older newscasters like Cronkite, John Chancellor, Frank Reynolds, Huntley and Brinkley, etc. leading off their reports with what Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie did, or what nightclub Paris Hilton went to?

In Britney's defense she became famous initially for her talent. The crazy stuff came afterwards. Same could be said for Lindsey lohan and hell even Michael Jackson.

Not a huge Britney fan but will say she paid her dues (MICKEY MOUSE CLUB anyone? Hahaha) and at least puts out an album every once and while. Lindsay Lohan ONCE was a pretty good child actress. The ones that grind my gears are Paris Hilton, Kim Kardashian, The people from LAGUNA BEACH: THE REAL O.C....... They are nobodies. I would rather watch my neighbors drink tea!
Do you remember when we were younger (many many mannnnnnny years ago) when something slipped about a celeb it was Earth-shattering. Let's use "Rock Hudson Is Gay/ Rock Hudson Has AIDS" as an example. Now for years no one knew he was gay and had he not gotten AIDS we probably never would have known. Peoples private lives were private. We knew just enough about celebrities without having photos of them falling over wasted or falling out of their clothes. Remember how shocking it was when people like Joan Crawford's kid or Big Crosby's kid wrote a Tell All Book? We were shocked cuz we had no idea there might have been trouble In Paradise! Maybe part of the reason we looked up to these people is because we DIDN'T know their dirty laundry. Nowadays "celbrities" put it all out there. And most of the ones that bug me (which are on the low end of the food chain) actually go out of their way to be photographed...so, no, its not always a case of "Oh poor them -the photogs CAUGHT them 'being bad'." A lot of these people knock it up a notch when they KNOW the cameras are around (How many times can you spread em getting out of a limo and FORGET your not wearing undies?????)

You can thank technology for that. Nowadays you can use ProTools to correct pitch, timber, etc. and edit together songs from little bits and pieces of hundreds of takes. Then there's all the electronic processing and vocal sweetening that's used. In the old days, every thing was so minimalist, you couldn't hide behind the wall of sound and layers of effects. Singers and instrumentalists performed everything all together in one room and had only a handful of takes to get it right. You had to be good (not to mention extremely well rehearsed) to cut it in an unforgiving environment like that.
Britney Spears is completely manufactured. She has a thin, non-distinct voice with no range to speak of. She was selected by some record exec or producer and they picked out the songs and packaged it all. She didn't write any of them, she didn't arrange any of them, she didn't choreograph anything, she can't sing anything live, she didn't conceive of any of her music videos, she didn't decide who to work with or what musical direction she should take...she didn't even pick out her own outfits. There's no artistry to be found anywhere in that mass marketing exercise. People who dig her music ought to go thank her producers. And the only reason her career is still going at this point is because she's turned herself into a tabloid circus which Hollywood perceives as bona fide star power.
