Today I walked my daughter to the first day of 5th grade. The second she entered the building I burst into tears! It seems I have cryed every "first day of school", the worst ones being Pre-School, Kindergarten and then today 5th grade. Last year was The Best - I think one small tear was all I got and then I smiled and went on with my day.
I think the reason I cryed is my daughter will probably be going to a different school for junior high next year (this school is building up but we're not sure if they will be finished in time) and that means this is the end of me walking her to school and sending her off: next year she'll probably be taking a bus.
Does anyone else cry when they send the kids off? Or does anyones KIDS cry?

Since my kid is at home doing his schooling through Bringham Young University...he never leaves.
But....I darn near had a nervous breakdown when I sent him to 1st grade...I about completely lost my mind over it.

I don't have kids, but being a teacher, I have to share this. We had a little girl in 1st grade last year who cried every day. She was terrified of her 1st grade teacher. I had the same woman myself in 1st grade, so I knew where this kid was coming from. Her mom tried to smooth things out and said she'd also cried in kindergarten, but guess what? This year she hasn't shed a single tear!
I don't remember crying that much, and I went to the same school where my mom taught, so I was usually okay.

It is weird...I remember the first day of Kindergarten....I remember what I wore. I remember my mom putting my clothes out for the day. I always wore little dresses to school, and I had matching knee socks or leggings. I loved getting dressed for school. I remember my mom walked me to school the first day. I was only 4 when I started school, cause my birthday is in the beginning of September, and I turned 5.
I walked home from school every day ...with my other little girlfriends...and you never were scared of walking home.
We always stopped at this little store...and bought candy on the way home.
There was a cross guard at the school...and at the bottom of the hill.
I loved walking home in the fall, and kicking the leaves around, and the smell of the fall leaves.
Now days...kids ride the bus or get rides to school, hardly anyone ever walks.
I can totally remember alot of stuff that happened in Kindergarten.

my wife and i dropped off our 3yr old today for 4yr old pre-k classes(he'll be 4 in sept). he couldn't care less that we were there. he just runs around the classroom looking at everything. and he makes friends easily. he likes to talk. and i couldn't be happier that he is so social because the last thing i wanted or needed was to have him be this screaming, crying wreck clinging to our legs.
my wife still got a little weepy though.
