Okay, I'm actually a pretty big fan of this film series! And the song is awesome, too. I remember when I first saw this film, I was amazed at how it made me feel.
I was in school, it was during English class. I was only about twelve coming up thirteen. So, during that class the teacher told us we had done some great work and we were allowed a treat from all the hard work we produced. She said we could watch a film, then one of the students asked which film it is. And she replied it's The NeverEnding Story but she also called it, "The most amazing film ever!". We could only watch some of it because it was almost the end of the lesson, but she promised we could watch the rest of it another lesson. After seeing the first part I went into a trance, I was amazed at how amazing, interesting and beautiful the film was. So, the next lesson after doing some more great work we were allowed to watch the rest of it. And it was also the last lesson before we broke up for the holidays. So, she let us watch what she called, "The most amazing film ever!". I was almost in tears when the horse died, but I was still impressed by the film. The teacher was almost in tears, too. After that day I went home to my parents and told them about the film I had watched in English class. A few months later I went shopping with my mum and brought the film on DVD.
Then when I reached fifteen I heard they had several sequels to The NeverEnding Story. I downloaded the second one and was actually really impressed by it. They had done a pretty good job on it. However, I haven't yet seen the third one! Although, at the one point I had to sell the first one as there was another film I wanted on DVD. Then just a couple of weeks ago I brought it back again. I'm still looking for the second one, but it's so hard to find. I can't find the third one either.
They also made a television series called Tales From The NeverEnding Story. Which I believe lasted only one season. They also did an animated series, and there was also a book published in 1979.
They also used a different version of the song in the second film.
The NeverEnding Story (1984) - 10/10
The NeverEnding Story ll: The Next Chapter (1990) - 10/10
The NeverEnding Story lll (1994) - Haven't seen
The NeverEnding Story - The Animated Series (1995 - 1996) - Haven't seen
Tales From The NeverEnding Story (2001 - 2002) - Haven't seen
The NeverEnding Story (Novel 1979) - Haven't read
So, what do you all think of these films?

The first time i saw The NeverEnding Story was also in school. This was way back in ´85-´86 and all students watched it in this big gymnasium. I loved the film and also read the Michael Ende book (first published in 1979) and i loved that too. It was printed with red and green letters.
Last time i watched the film was in 2010 and i remember still liking it. I´ve seen the sequel once but don´t recall much.

No, I haven't seen The Dark Crystal! However, I have seen Labyrinth many times, and I really love it.

The movie was based on the book, which is a classic of German childrens literature. The film only really covers the first half of the book though. I didn't get around to reading it until a few years ago, and unfortunately it didn't really work for me. I felt like something may have been lost in translation.
There were two slightly different versions of the film made; one for the German 'home' market, and one for the international market. The German one has a slightly different cut and does not have the theme song. The new German / Japanese Blu Ray's finally have this version available with English audio. The new US Blu Ray also has a commentary from the Director.
