I have collected most of the John Carpenter soundtracks, only missing The Fog, and Christine. And the Thing, even though that was Ennio Morricone.
It may just be me there Good Package but, I would think that theme would be seperate from song off soundtrack, otherwise it might be even harder to narrow down. I'm having enough trouble just picking out best themes, I almost want to do it by genera instead.
In fact I will, my list goes a little like this.
Horror / Suspence 1. The Shining 2. Chariots of the Pumpkins Halloween III 3. Hellraiser 4. Nightmare on Elm St. 5. Creepshow
Children of the Corn, Pumpkinhead, Pretty Much all John Carpenter's films and Italian Horror films, Pino Donaggio great music.
Action Adventure
1. Indiana Jones like the Temple of Doom variation. 2. Super Man 3. Batman the Danny Elfman version 4. Tango and Cash 5. The Best Conan the Barbarian the Anvil of Crom by Basil Poledouris
Sceince Fiction.
1. Aliens 2. Predator 3. Terminator. 4. Robocop Another Poledouris hit action theme 5. Star Wars
Westerns
1. Tombstone 2. Quiggly Down Under Poledouris strikes agian 3. Magnificent Seven 4. The Good, The Bad, The Ugly 5. Pretty much anything else Ennio Morricone makes.

All of your 2-5 choices would be honorable mentions on my list. The Silent Partner is just fantastic, a lost masterpiece that few know about and fewer have seen.

I saw a little clip of The Silent Parnter on Terror in the Aisles and thought what is this. That movie was great for turning me onto other movies, plus I like Donald Pleasance.
You know I remember thinking when I first watched the film that it was just okay, but I've been wanting to watch Alone in the Dark with Jack Palance, Donald Pleasence, and Martin Landau agian.

But.. but.. but, you guys are totally forgetting The Italian Job (the 1969 original ofcourse) ! It's essential viewing, with a lovely 'happy' ending.
Also : Grand Slam (1967) , with Klaus Kinski.
