We lost a legend yesterday with the passing of Clarence Clemons, the longtime saxophone player for Bruce Springsteen's E Street Band.. he died yesterday at the age of 69 from complications of a stroke he suffered last week.
Clemons met Bruce Springsteen on the Jersey Shore in 1971 and played on two songs on the New Jersey rocker's debut album "Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.". Clemons soon joined Springsteen's inaugural E Street Band in 1972 and played with them until his death. Clemons played on 21 Springsteen albums and was featured prominently on many of his biggest hits, including "Blinded By the Light," "Thunder Road," "Jungleland," "Badlands" and "I'm Goin' Down."
Aside from the E Street Band, Clemons collaborated with many other artists from across the musical spectrum... such as Aretha Franklin, Ringo Starr, Twisted Sister, The Grateful Dead and his 1985 vocal duet with Jackson Browne on "You're a Friend of Mine."
I've seen Bruce Springsteen in concert in every decade since the 80's and Clarence Clemons was always a crowd favorite!
Instead of a moment of silence .. how bout we all go back to the tune that blasted Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band into the ears of millions:
"Clarence lived a wonderful life. He carried within him a love of people that made them love him. He created a wondrous and extended family. He loved the saxophone, loved our fans and gave everything he had every night he stepped on stage. His loss is immeasurable and we are honored and thankful to have known him and had the opportunity to stand beside him for nearly 40 years."

Very sad. Certainly a man that stands out. A big loss for the Boss...it'd be hard playing songs without him after looking over your shoulder and seeing him there for all those years. RIP.
