Tonight....I stopped what I was doing for 10 minutes, because my husband and son said "You Gotta see this?"....and it was a show called "America's Got Talent"....I saw some woman crushing stuff with the biggest set of ____'s I have ever seen. Before her...several people did a stiptease. I didn't know that any of that classified as talent. It seemed more like the gong show to me.
Last night...my husband was flipping through the channels and a show called "Speeders" was on. I couldn't believe the junk I saw on that show either.
I just keep thinking of how extreme things are getting...
on that show America's got talent...I got up and walked out of the room when I guy started swallowing swords and he said he might die trying to entertain people.
That's exactly what is going to happen soon.
I keep wondering...is this stuff for real??
Like the sword thing....could that guy have killed himself on stage...or is that stuff all set up?
Does anyone else watch that stuff?
I saw a preview for an upcoming show called "Celebrity Circus" and it said one of the Celebrities gets rushed to the hospital. I don't even know who is on that show.
I couldn't believe after the Speeders show, there was another show called something like "The Smoking Gun's Top stupidest criminals"...and the people commenting on the criminals were...Tonya Harding, Todd Bridges, Amy Fisher and Danny Bonaduche....those people were criminals too...and yet they are out there making money off commenting on other people commiting crimes. ?????

Speeders and Stupidest Criminals are great entertainment although I find it ironic that David Hasselhoff is on a show where he judges talent. Stripteasing can be a good talent though..........

Well...what I saw...were 2 girls who were stuck together and they look completely stupid, and David Hasselhoff said they looked like 2 donuts. Whatever that meant.
Hasselhoff was kind of funny...he hid under his desk half the time...so I liked that part....but I can not believe what people are willing to do on TV for attention....I never figured out if it's a joke, or they really think they are talented.
On the stupid criminals thing...I find it really hard to laugh about watching someone commit a crime like beating someone or robbing someone or some place...I don't find that funny...I find it really scary that it happens that often that so much stuff is caught on tape.

I loved Circus of the Stars...that's cause the Stars they had on it were really cool. I remember Brooke Shields was on it. I remember Dana Plato too.
What I would love to see again...and not remade...I want to see the old reruns of ...
Battle of the Network Stars.
I remember seeing people like Linda Carter and Andrew Stevens in it.
All those people were just awesome to look at....but the new stuff...the celebrites are either so old...or they are so new that you never heard of them.

Yeah...she could be commenting on the stupidest criminals....if she were alive- she's another tragic drug overdose...
I just remember seeing her doing the trapeze act back when Circus of the Stars was on.

I've never saw a Stupidest Criminals episode where somebody was beaten. The whole point of the show is just what it says to show dumb criminals. The majority of them are break ins, somebody falling through the ceiling, getting robbed with a hand inside a coat posing as a gun, chases, etc. Robberies have been going on for centuries nothing new there it's not the robberies people laugh at its the criminals. If that were the case the show would be called "World's Dumbest Robberies That No One Should Laugh At."

The only time I saw The Stupidest Criminals (the other night)...people were getting beat. They were beating up the cashiers when they robbed them....then the cashiers were turning on the criminals and beating them.
The one thing that I saw that they made look like it was funny-I didn't find it funny...I couldn't get it out of my mind...
There was a store that kept getting robbed, so the owner installed a wall that came up right in front of the register, to the ceiling...all the cashier had to do was hit a button and the wall popped up and blocked him from the criminal...and it happened super fast...a criminal tried to climb up on to the counter, and they hit the button, the wall came up and smashed his head and neck inbetween the wall and the ceiling...it looked like it broke his neck...I don't know how it couldn't have....but they kept replaying it over and over....it looked like his buddies took off when they saw him laying on the counter...
I can not believe how much crime is caught on tape, and they show people shooting at each other too...I don't find any of that funny...think about how scary that would be to be in that situation if you were the person involved.

Keep in mind you said that was the only time you watched it. If somebody tried to rob me or my store and got his head caught in a wall then that's what he gets for trying to rob me. It's not like he had sympathy for someone when he tried to hold them up. Look at what the news shows: people being shot, shot at, here and abroad. That's always gonna be shown. Society is progressively getting worse (cannot be blamed on anything modern) and it has been for years so that's not a new thing ........

The crime and the way things are going...it absolutely is too connected...you see it in the movies and the music and the tv shows. All that is on TV is court shows, and these murder shows...like that one called "Snapped"...I know I have Direct Tv....and I hate it, because I have to keep it because of my business...or I wouldn't even have it...I have hundreds of channels, and nothing is ever on them. At night...I like to flip through the channels and watch something before I go to bed...I know alot of people who don't have a TV in their bedroom, but I could never get to sleep without watching something...all I ever watch is HGTV...my favorite show on TV is Clean House. I love Niecy Nash. Other than that...if I flip through the tv...there is nothing on...not even a good movie...it's rare...every once and awhile I stop and see some movie on....I have to stick a DVD in to see something good.
I have always wished that the made for tv movies that were on TV from the 50's- through the 70's would be replayed again. There's so many that were cool, I have all these old TV Guides from the 70's, and I loved watching movies on Saturday afternoons back then.
I wish they would show TV shows like Rin Tin Tin, and the old Tarzan with Ron Ely. Even the old Lone Ranger was cool.
This stuff on TV is affecting people...wether they realize it or not.
Yeah....I don't feel sorry for the guy who got his head slammed...I absolutely agree that he got what he deserved. But...why do we need to see it replayed over and over and over again? I was glad to see him get smashed...but what scares me is how common it is...and that these people are out there in the world, and I could come in contact with them at any moment.
That is what scares me...I think about how many times we travel somewhere and what if we broke down and needed help..I look at people all the time when I am stopped at gas stations...and I think...would that person help me if I was dying...and I never thought that way when I was a kid...I lost count of how many times my Dad stopped along the road to help a stranger...to change a tire....to give them a ride somewhere...it's too scary to help a person...you don't know if your being set up or not...and I know my grandparents never lived like this.
I look at TV and think what would my grandma being watching on TV now, if she were still alive, because she'd be 83 years old....so if she hadn't died young..she'd have nothing to watch on TV. I think about how many people my age and up that I know in real life...most of them don't watch anything on TV either. It's because it is so awful.
My son doesn't watch any TV...nothing...there's not one show he watches. He didn't even like American Idol. We are currently watching Season 2 of ChiPs....and we love it...I keep looking up the show on IMDB because I keep seeing all these people in different episodes that I really really like....I love Robert Pine, and Larry Wilcox, but the supporting cast of people are so cool too...and that is what made those shows so good. I can not believe there's nothing out there like it any more. On ChiPs they never beat anyone up, and they never pull a gun on anyone...when is that happening now?

Those "murder" and "court" shows are all over TV because that's what people like!! Look at the Nielsen ratings...shows like CSI are always in the top 10 because people (myself included) find them interesting and entertaining. Believe it or not, there ARE good TV shows out there!!

I know people like them...but why? I am not talking about Tv shows...I am talking about real stuff that they show about people who have been murdered in real life...it is so disturbing, and so creepy. My mom watches that stuff, and I can't stand it...it sticks in my head, and I can't get the victims out of my mind about what they went through...what their family went through..how horrible it was....why do people find that to be entertaining? It scares the heck out of me....

They sure could be pettyfan. But as a father to a 15 year old,i just can`t help myself thinking that the world has evolved to a much tougher/colder place to exist in.And in the end,i`m not sure that is the way i would prefer it to go.
Anyway, old dilemma.I`m sure the young ones today manages quite good as they always did.At least i hope so.(sorry for the horrible bad english)
ps:I agree with you Isis.something is just not meant to make tv shows of.

That's what I am talking about...you can make a TV show out of stuff that isn't real...but all that is on TV is real life stuff any more. That channel that the stupiest criminals was on is the TruTv that Sam said...I don't know if that's all that is on that channel (all reality stuff). I saw a preview saying something like...we aren't Reality , we are Actuality. They were previewing that new program called Black Gold. I am not sure what channel "The Deadliest Catch is on, but that show and then the other show that the guys drive to the diamond mines across the ocean in big tractor trailor trucks...those things scare the heck out of me...because they are real...and I never knew people even had jobs like that....so the fact that they film it all...as if they are waiting for something really bad to go wrong...that is what is scary. If nothing dramatic ever happens...then they don't have much for people to tune in to, do they?
The shows have only one direction to go, and that is more and more danger...and we are going to get to the point that we turn on the TV and real people are going to be shown being killed right in front of us, and we aren't going to think anything of it.

That's why they make remotes. If ya don't like something, ya have the option of turning it. Black Gold is pretty much as real as it gets as my first cousin does the same thing for a living in Texas. Alot of people (myself included) like seeing a show wih actuality in it compared with some of the stuff that's on today (i.e., Oprah)......

Now back in the 90s America's Dumbest Criminals with Daniel Butler was actually amusing. Therein if something painful happened, it was entirely the crook's fault for not thinking things out (one that stands out is one guy whom, after getting initially caught after having been busted after getting stuck in the air vent of the building he was robbing, tried to steal a motorcycle after his release, but accidentally started it after his bandages got stuck in the wheels and was dragged half a block before he could get loose). The difference between then and now also is that they were specifically trying it to point out to the viewing public the consequences of crime and discourage it, and stuck mainly with less controvertial matters (e.g. bank robbers who thought srpaying whipped cream on their heads made an ideal disguise). Today, though, it seems to be done simply for shock value, and that cheapens whatever message there might actually be.
