Why pay rent when you can just crash at your old pad for free?
Oh wait, you can't. But apparently Randy Quaid and Evi Quaid didn't get the memo about mortgages and whatnot, and were consequently arrested Saturday after police responded to reports of unwanted squatters in a Santa Barbara area home.
And now the twist (isn't there always one with these two?): The Quaids claim they've actually owned the property for years... According to the Santa Barbara Sheriff's Department, a representative for a Montecito residence discovered that someone had been staying in the property's guest house and reported it to police. They later arrived to find Randy and Evi, who insisted to deputies that they in fact own the house and have since the 1990's.
Unfortunately for the already embattled duo, documentation was provided by the rep proving that he had purchased the property back in 2007 from a man who had bought it from the Quaids. So there went that theory.
Both Randy and Evi Quaid were arrested and charged with felony burglary and an entering a building without consent misdemeanor. Evi received an extra little misdemeanor treat for resisting arrest after police were forced to restrain her at the Montecito residence.
The Quaids, who both did some jail time back in April after going on the run and skipping out on a hotel bill, are each being held on $50,000 bail in Santa Barbara County Jail.
Wow!
