i just started reading this memoir...the author, a music journalist/columnist for Rolling Stone, goes back to the 80s, describing life and love, using emotions and feelings from the music we adore, broken down into chapters, titled with 80's music.
for example, ch.1 is titled: The Go-Go's, "our lips are sealed"...
and other chapters feature songs by Human League, OMD, Culture Club, Lita Ford, The Psychedelic Furs, Prince, Madonna, A Flock of Seagulls, and lots more!
so far, it's been sweet and funny...like i said i just started reading it.
this author also wrote a best seller, (prior to talking to girls), which i hadn't heard of called LOVE IS A MIXTAPE. perhaps someone here knows of it?
just wanted to share, in hopes that someone here has read it, and if so, what did you think. if not, maybe you would like to check it out?

Sounds funny. If I ever get the time to start seriously reading again, I'll have to look for this one.

Looks like a fun read. Another one is by Pamela Des Barres-I'm With The Band-Confessions of a Groupie. Printed in 1987, but about her er um experiences in the 60's/70's.

Bamersy!!! OMG I read this when I was in Jr. High.....like twice! Probaly part of why I have a dirty mind even now haha I remember having it at a family gathering and some uncle commenting on "your mother is letting you read this?"
I loved all the stories of the old musicians and those times great stories of Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix,Mick Jagger, Jimmy Page.
This is the cover I had:
kindof makes me want to read it again.......

I've read "Talking To Duran Duran About Girls" where the author tries to tell Simon Le Bon about his girlfriend, and agrees that he's a lucky SOB for 'netting' Yasmin....

Ronnie, I didn't know this book existed. I have his other one, Love Is A Mixtape. I found it brand new at the Dollar Store last year and it just looked like something I'd enjoy. It was a buck, I couldn't resist getting it. I only read a chapter and I liked it but I got distracted somehow and never got back to it. Now I want to finish it and get the one you're talking about here! I'm telling ya, great minds... !

I adore you & your dirty mind Muffy!! I have this one too! It's a great read, especially if you're into music and/or followed a band around like me & my girlfriends did with the New Kids . I liked the whole GTO thing and how it was about Pam & this group of "out there" kind of girls who just loved being emersed in the world of talented, eccentric musicians.
I actually stumbled upon Pam's website a few years back and she had fairly recent pics up of her & Robert Plant. Apparently, he was at some event and she showed up and surprised him! He welcomed her with open arms! The pics of them together are priceless. His expression and the way he is looking at her demonstrate a familiarity & true fondness. Very cute!! Maybe I'll try and track them down later & post em!
Man, looks like I'm going to have to revist this one too! Good thing winter is coming...
