I have noticed that latley DVD rentals from netflix and Redbox (not sure if the brick and mortar stores are the same)have been released up to a month later than the DVD store releases. My theory is that the rental industry is killing the DVD sales and they figure you will go buy a DVD rather instead of waiting a month. Does anyone know the real reason for this or is my theory correct?

Good theory. Until I joined Netflix a couple months ago I didn't know this was the case. There are new movies that I want to see that they stil have the release dates as "unknown" or a month away.
