I'm assuming several people on here have this so here goes. Due to my extremely ****ty cable company which shall remain nameless, I never know when my dvr is gonna work. The odd thing is it always works while I'm home. But if I leave for work and set anything, it doesn't record. It goes into the un-recorded list under channel not available. The odd thing is I'm setting stuff to record on channels I actually can get. It's baffled the technicians (I use that term loosely) and engineers. The old box has been swapt out for a new one and they say my signal and lines are great. Anybody else ever had this problem? Another odd thing is I rarely had trouble until I started setting whole series to record (i.e., Man vs. Wild, That Metal Show). The box is not full either. Mine usually doesn't get over about 40% full. Thanks for any suggestions.

Are you by chance turning your reciever off when you leave? Or is is set to go into idle? Mine was going into idle after three hours of inactivity and not recording. I also have DISH though.

Or maybe it's in love? You've not named it Edgar and introduced it to any girlfriends, have you?
