Never thought I'd say this, but I think I've had it with superhero movies for a while, I'm looking forward to 'Wolverine' because we already know the character and had 'Watchman' been in more capable hands (e.g. Wachowski brothers) I may've been hyped, but Synder?...he's too fascisitic and souless a director for me, 'Dawn Of The Dead' was OK but '300' had two and half good scenes and seemed to last for hours.

I saw the preview for Watchmen at The Dark Knight, and I thought it looked gross....it looked like some kind of underground warped comic...that is on the perverted side.

I loved that comic series, totally thought provoking and for adults. I dont think it was perverted at all.

It looks like the girl is some kind of Domentrix person...what kind of superhero outfit is she wearing? It looks like it is made out of electrical tape, and the guy in blue...looks naked.

How is it perverted and warped? Because it's gonna have a plot? It may have helped to have some knowledge of the comic first....

I don't care what the comic is about...I think the way they are dressed is horrendous...who are they marketing this movie towards?

I'm guessing it's not going to be marketed towards children and I'm sure it will be rated accordingly.

As I've said before, I'm not big on movies based on comic books or graphic novels, but after reading some of the replies to Motley's post I decided to check out the trailer for myself. Didn't look half bad, actually. It's something I might watch...I wouldn't go to the movies to see it, but I'd watch if it were on HBO or something.
Oh, and one more thing...what's sick and perverted? Once more, I just don't see it. Maybe I need to get my eyes checked.

I think some people should realise that this movie is so obvioulsy not for them that maybe they should leave this discussion to those who might be interested in seeing the movie.

When they say that a movie is based on a comic...I picture "normal" comics...with Batman and Spiderman and Wonder Woman. That's why I don't get these type of more adult comics that definately are not for kids.
When we use to read comics like "Archie"....the people were not dressed like that, and if you don't see what I mean...then there is something wrong.
Just because I might not like the movie, doesn't mean I can't have an opinion on it.
There are many topics that people start on here that I don't go anywhere near...see if I posted anything about Metallica...I didn't even read that thread. So, I do stay away from lots of stuff that have no interest to me at all.

They are probably marketing the movie towards people with a general knowledge of the comic who don't make judgment calls based on what somebody's dressed like. Guess what no leg warmers or acid washed jeans or swatch watches. Why does every comic have to be for kids? Why make a comment on something you have no knowledge of? Why judge something you have no knowledge of? Notice how I don't comment on threads like the Private School movie. It's because I know nothing of it. I've saw the preview for it time and time again yet I don't make unsupported comments on it. It may not be my cup of tea yet I don't bash it based on the preview and sypnosis. I guess some people have to have a movie wrapped up in a pretty box that explains the plot (if there is a plot) during the opening credits with characters who have the IQ of a stop sign......
Thanks for your support.......

I love the way you refer to "normal" comics as though you are implying that things like Watchmen etc are abnormal.
No one is denying your right to an opinion but when you blatantly come into a thread slagging off a subject that most of the other posters have been fairly positive about then it is obvious that your motives are intended to cause controversy and arguments.
I personally couldn't care less what you think of the trailer, movie, metallica or anything else for that matter. Everyone is entitled to their own tastes and opinions but like motley said, we don't all jump into threads to slag off things we know nothing about. You talk about numerous movies I never saw, heard of or liked and I tend to stay away from those threads. Maybe you should think about doing the same once in a while because at the moment you are doing yourself no favours and making few friends with such ignorant, uneducated, ill-informed comments...
I'm sure you will have some response but I wouldn't waste your time as I surely won't waste mine bothering to read it...

First of all the reason I have any interest in what is going on with this movie, is I have a 15 year old son, and his best friend who collect comic books. So, if they see a preview for a movie that is supposedly based on comic book characters....and I see the preview and the people look like THAT, then I want to know what kind of comic book they are talking about, because I never saw any comic that the people looked like THAT.
My son said that the Watchmen is not a comic anyway...it is a graphic novel...which is different than a comic book, he said in a graphic novel...they don't have to worry about the content as much, and they can make it extremely violent and get away with it more than in a comic book.
My whole thing about wether kids should see this stuff or not...it doesn't really matter...right?? Not to Noms ...but it absolutely matters to me...because I do pay attention to my kid and what he is exposed to...and the kind of stuff that is out there for kids in games, and tv, and movies...is awful.
I was on vacation in Williamsburg...and we took my son and his friend in to a comic book store...if any person on here actually has any connection to a comic book, it is me...where do you think my name came from? So, don't tell me I shouldn't comment on something I don't know anything about..when I do know about this stuff...and what it use to be...is not what it has become.
I spent 1 hour talking to both the owners of the store, and we have kept in contact through email, after I was in there. They both said how violent comics and games have become...because they still do Dungeons and Dragon tournaments at their place...and they do it...to get kids off the internet...because the internet to them has way more horrible stuff to expose them to...than the one game of the 80's that was thought to be controversial at the time...so figure that one out.
There is a very dark and twisted side to video games and comics and music and movies and the internet...and it keeps creeping it's way in to everything around us...to where nothing actually seems to bother certain people any more.

So you think just because you don't want your kid being exposed to this movie then no one else should be given the option? The Watchmen was originally a limited edition comic book which was later made into a graphic novel. Plain and simple if you don't want to see it or don't want your child to see it then don't go see it. No good to complain because it's already made and set to hit theaters next year. Maybe you could picket? We have the freedom here to watch what we want. I think your over exagerating the whole dark and twisted side as it has slowly evolved over the years. Anyone's free to comment on anything but preferably comment on something you have a little background info on before making an assumption.
P.S. Here's the link saying The Watchmen was a comic series before becoming a graphic novel/trade paperback. It says so in the first sentence. I have all 12 issues (as well as the graphic novel)hold on lemme check. Yup they're comic books.......

hi everyone. first off, i am with petty. i don't have an opinion on this movie yet.. but i would watch it. it just doesn't look like something i will run out to see.
second... correct me if i am wrong, but my bf is a comic book artist and i could have sworn he once mentioned the difference to me between a comic book and a graphic novel. isn't a graphic novel just several comic issues compiled into one book? i know people tend to zero in on the word 'graphic'.. but i thought it was up to the writers to decide on how violent their stories are.. be it a comic or a graphic novel?
just my 2 cents yo..

I don't think it matters one way or another what it is actually called...it matters what is in it.
I have no intention of seeing it, and of course I am not letting my son see it.
I don't care if everyone on here who's an adult wants to go see this stuff.
What I care about...is how the movie is marketed...and how there are alot of parents who are not like me...and they are not like any of you either...and they will take their 5 year old in to see this movie....
I saw a kid that old at the Dark Knight...does anyone on here who has seen that movie...think that a 5 year old should be allowed to go see that movie?
If you say that it isn't your responsibility to worry about someobody else's kid...because you want to see this type of stuff...I think that is very self centered...because a 5 year old kid...is going to go see whatever their parents take them to see...and it will happen...I feel like if they made more movies like Walt Disney use to make...that were family oriented then there would be something else for kids to see ....but there are a ton of really bad parents out there...and all of this stuff is just a vicious cycle of disfunction.
This stuff is the majority...my son says that video games have become more like movies and movies have turned in to looking like a video game...and that's the truth...I wasn't sure what this movie even was....
you can't even tell by the preview...what the story line is suppose to be about for this movie...all it is is visual images...and the images are creepy looking.
That's how most movies are...they are sequences of images mixed with loud noises....and who can even tell by that preview what this is even about?

I watched it again...just to see if I was missing the plot...there is none...you can't even tell by that preview who the good guys are and who the bad guys are....or if there are any good guys....because all you see are people being blown up...that's it, and people fighting...and a casket being lowered in to the ground....you don't even know who the guy is at the beginning of the preview...it just starts in the middle of nowhere.

That's a really good point Kash, I mean you're actually discussing the movie there, mentioend the director his previous work how that's probably gonna impact on what the film will turn out to be, but why rasie these salient points here? this isn't a movie forum, its a devirative bitch fest...IMHO Isis, I saw 'Batman' on VHS when I was about 10-11 which was fine and 'Watchman' really is a fascinating, complex story I don't care for the comic as much as some, but the overall narrative arc is very good.

Kash...I don't even know who the directors are in these movies...or where they came from, or anything...because that doesn't matter to me...I don't care who they are or what other movies they did....I care about what the point of the movie is about. It might be a fascinating complex story....but who can tell.....
You didn't see The Dark Knight when you were 10 or 11-unless your way younger than you ever let on to be- ....no other Batman movie comes close to the violence in that one...so any Batman movie you saw in the past at that age really does not compare to this one.
Plus 10 and 11 years old is young....but that still isn't 5 years old...
I saw a person with a baby...in the movies to see The Dark Knight....the baby screamed so bad from the noise, they finally got up and left....but my point is...why would anybody go in there with a baby to begin with....
The Watchmen is exactly along the same lines as The Dark Knight, Xmen, Ironman, Spiderman, The Incredible Hulk, and Ghost Rider.
I use to love Superhero stuff...and now I hate it....I can't help but be mad about it....something I use to really find to be exciting and cool and uplifting has the opposite effect on me now.
