Has anyone else heard of this movie? It stars Richard Gere and Claire Danes. My mom rented it tonight and wants me to watch it. I never even heard of it. Has anyone seen it?

Do horror type movies really give you nightmares? Just curious.

Not horror like ones like Friday the 13th...but movies that are based on things that can happen in real life-those kind do. In this day and age though ...the 80's horror movies don't even come close to being as scary as what real life is like.
I have nightmares about stuff I see on the news...like school killings and random acts of violence.
This movie...The Flock....I think Richard Gere is an investigator type person- he's not a police officer...he is paid to keep track of people who are sexual predators...who have been returned to society...and they show you some of the whacko stuff that people in that world do...I would rather pretend like I don't know that stuff like that exists.
In this movie a young girl is kidnapped...and the person is someone who knows Richard Gere...and he has to find her before they kill her.
It was sort of along the lines of Silence of the Lambs.

I understand what you mean Isis. I kind of had the same feeling with ‘The Brave’ (1997).
That movie is about an alcoholic Native American (Johnny Depp) who decides to play the leading part in a snuff movie, offered to him by some creep (Marlon Brando). In other words… he will be tortured to death and the whole thing will be filmed and sold. However, in return his family (who live in poverty and don’t know anything about this) will receive a serious amount of money. That way he can give his family a better life and make up for the lost years as a drunk.
Knowing that there really is a market for sick stuff like that and that people actually pay to see it is beyond me. I rather don’t know these things. They give me nightmares as well.
Nevertheless, I have to say this was a very good movie. Sad… but good. They also don’t show the part where the torturing happens. This movie’s more about the sacrifice he makes in order to give his family a future again.. somehow.

Thanks for the answer. I know what you mean. Stuff like Faces of Death, etc...I can't watch. I won't even watch surgery procedures on TV. Grosses me out. But, I can watch any movie and nothing bothers me at all.

TKO-that movie sounds awful...I know I couldn't watch that...I never heard of that one either.
The thing about "The Flock" that I liked...and this is not good...was that Richard Gere went around beating the heck out of those perverts...like he knew that they were going to do stuff again...and he knew that they were never going to be "cured"...and he got so sick and tired of the whole thing...In the movie-they are going to make him retire ...because they think he's over the edge...but if it were real life...and someone did something horrible to my child...I'd want someone to beat the heck out of that creep ....I would actually want to see that person dead.
I know on HBO they have done some weird "documentary" type stuff....on this subject, and it is mind boggling what people do.
In this movie...the part that really freaked me out was that some of the people had these foot and hand fetishes...and they cut the feet and hands off their victims....that was really disturbing.
I never have ever watched any of the Saw movies...I just know I don't want creepy, twisted, tortorous images of people being brutalized in my mind. This movie wasn't that horrible...it is kind of along the lines of the movie "Seven"- which I personally quit watching after the first 1/2 hour.
The only reason that I could stand this movie...was because of Richard Gere...and the fact that I was happy that he was out there protecting the victims the way that he did in this movie.

i have watched several surgeries on video, for it doesn't bother me one bit. i like knowing how these things are done and what happens to people who's lives get saved from stuff like this. discovery health is one of my favorite channels with shows like TRAUMA (in the ER) and MATERNITY WARD.
as for snuff movies, i have never personally seen one..nor would i want to.. (has one ever actually been proven to be a snuff movie?) but i did watch a documentary on snuff movies and people with derranged fetishes such as this... they showed some of the fake scenes and how they created the effects for torturing people and that definitely made me squirm!!!! that's some freaky stuff y'all.

I've flipped by surgeries before and for some reason I always watch lol. The worse one I saw was open heart surgery. Maybe I was supposed to be a surgeon in another life? Never watched a snuff film nor do I care to. Those are two entirely different things....
