I liked Punch-Drunk Love but i knew that it would be different stylewise.
As a rule, i try to avoid any Adam Sandler stuff. Little Nicky still rocks though [Cool]

Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004)

"Harold Lee and Kumar Patel are two stoners who end up getting the munchies. What they crave the most after seeing a TV advertisement, is a trip to White Castle. So from here, follows a journey for the burgers they require. On their way they will encounter many obstacles including a raccoon, a racist officer, and a horny Neil Patrick Harris."

Silly mindless fun. Who's up for a game of Battle- - -

Watched Casino Royale (2006).

Lost the Bond franchise somewhere between The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day.
My brother forced me to check out this 007.2 edition with Daniel Craig and i liked it very much.

James is definitely a superhuman now, a computer nerd and Terminator/Robocop in the same package but i can live with it.
Few breathtaking action episodes in this one and the Casino Royale poker sequence was enjoyable.
Craig did very well and Mikkelsen was cool as the bad guy. I also liked both Bond girls Eva Green and Caterina Murino.
Now i want to see more bond action.

Daniel is one lucky fella

Carrie (2013) - My 3/10 is for the final 10 minutes which probably just looked better than they actually were after sitting through the rest of this dribble. Chloe Grace Moretz was completely wrong for the role, although I did rather enjoy the relish on her face when she was killing. But all the melancholy, tension and heartbreak I feel watching the original was devoid here. And I'd definitely take the TV version over this.

I completely agree with you, Helen, on the unnecessary second remake of Carrie. So what if they had money and CGI to make the finale even more extravagant. It all came off like a second-rate roadshow version of DePalma's masterpiece, which, in my opinion, remains one of the greatest horror films ever made. As good an actress as Chloe Grace Moretz is, she was miscast. Even in dowdy clothing, she was just too pretty. Sissy Spacek went from ugly ducking to pretty. I think Julianne Moore, an actress I don't particularly like, wasn't good either. She really paled in comparison to Piper Laurie.

One look at this magnificently composed DePalma shot, and the remake is blown right out of the water. It's a shot that sums up the whole film.
DePalma's use of a split diopter in Carrie

Now don't even get me started on the 2006 remake of DePalma's Sisters with Chloe Sevigny and Stephen Rea. I didn't even know that this thing existed until it showed up seemingly out of nowhere on Cinemax a few years ago. It was made on the cheap in Canada, and the less said the better. It's dreadful.

Yeah that Sisters remake wasn't good. But would take it over this Carrie one anyday. The more I think about it the more angry I get!

I really hate these remakes of horror classics. Apart from Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead and the new version of Last House on the Left, very little good can be said about any of them. Remaking a classic that isn't even 30 years' old is just a mercenary money grab.

P.S. Actually, the angriest I've gotten with a movie of late was Spectre. Again, total money grab. It's like they wrote down all these old Bond homage ideas on cards, shuffled the cards, filmed the scenes, and put them in radom order. That screenplay is about the laziest thing that I've seen in a long time. They were just coasting on their Skyfall laurels.

Kids movies whilst visiting the family in Carcassonne, France.

Moonrise Kingdom (2012)

A slightly different kind of coming-of-age movie, Wes Anderson style !

Imagine the 1986 movie Fire With Fire being directed by the Coen brothers with two 12 year olds in the leading roles,
and you're not too far off. Great supporting cast includes Bill Murray, Frances McDormand, Bruce Willis, Edward Norton,
and a barely recognizable Harvey Keitel.

Read a lot of reviews on this one before watching and it seemed to me to be very much a love it or hate it affair,I myself quite enjoyed it,there's no real plot really to speak off it's basically Salma Hayek being trapped in a building for the whole 90 minute + running time with her ex mob boss sending in goon after Goon to try and kill her.

 -

The films action is relentless from the off and the bodycount goes off the scale,Hayek looks great here and also is pretty convincing in her role, the non - stop onslaught is staged with quite a bit of flair by director Joe Lynch who's only other directorial credit I have watched is the Wrong Turn sequel - Wrong Turn 2:Dead End.

Like I said I quite enjoyed it and if you like the idea of watching the sexy Salma Hayek blowing away the bad guys for an hour and a half then you'll probably really dig it too but if not then I'd say steer well clear!

Surprising move from Salma in her (almost) 50s, action movie shot in Serbia? I´m interested though.
Female Liam Neeson perhaps, waiting for the sequel [Smile]

That would be pretty cool if she did continue down the route of the female all action hero, she looks great for someone who's about to turn 50 and i suppose even if her movie career at some point does start to falter then she's always got her billionaire husband (net worth 15 billion) to fall back on! For 5 Euros it's definitely worth the pick up,there's the odd bit of fake CGI blood here and there and it can get seriously stupid in parts but it certainly entertains for its 92 minute running time!

Moon is an excellent science fiction film with the always brilliant Sam Rockwell in a tour de force performance. (And you have the voice of Kevin Spacey as his computer and a small bit by Matt Berry.) I also liked the very cool retro use of models and not CGI. John Carpenter tried this in Ghosts of Mars and failed dismally with his hokey looking models. Here, the physical effects work is super. With this and Source Code, Duncan Jones, David Bowie's son, moves to the top of the pack of up-and-coming science-fiction directors. I'm curious to see how he does with Warcraft, based on the video game, this summer.

Well if we had to lose Alan Rickman, what a film role to end with! Absolutely superb thriller with both Rickman and Mirren producing career best work.

9/10

Quiqueck & Hämat: Proll Out (2013)

This is a self-claimed 'Pixar-like' animation about two everyday, bumbling aliens who come under attack from the nasty, vindictive Prolls.

Aimed squarely at adults with its language and humour level, it's a bit hit-and-miss. The animation is great in places and poor in others, but the storyline is OK and there are some very funny bits. There are also a fair number of homages to well-known sci-fi genres.

Overall I enjoyed it, but not as much as I could have. Be interesting to see how Pixar would have handled the animation, but then a Disney movie liberally sprinkled with F-bombs? I doubt we'll see that any time soon. Maybe Dreamworks...?

Anyone else checked out John Wick yet as I thought this was really good fun, action packed from beginning to end and with very little in the way of story to slow things down this thing just flies by!

All pretty preposterous stuff with Keanu Reeves as a sort of super human hitman who is out for revenge on a mobsters son and his gang who have not only stollen his high performance car but have also killed his new pet dog which was left to him as a final gift from his recently deceased wife.

This sort of role fits Reeves perfectly and I believe there's already a sequel in the works.

Great stuff with some terrific action set pieces plus the ever cool Willem Dafoe in a bit part this comes highly recommended to any action junkies out there!
