Everyone knows that I'm not much of a fan of remakes especially when it comes to our fav 80's flicks.
But with vampire flicks all the rage these days, it was only a matter of time before someone did a remake of the 1985 horror-comedy flick "Fright Night." The movie about a teenager who discovers that his next-door neighbor is a bloodsucker is definitely a cult classic. Though I actually prefer "Fright Night II" over the original. So it should come as no surprise that the "Fright Night" remake has already been filmed and is set to hit theaters on August 19th, 2011.
However, it might surprise you is that Colin Farrell has been tapped to play the aforementioned vampire, Jerry Dandrige, in the remake. And he's not the only familiar name you'll see in the credits: "Star Trek" actor Anton Yelchin is also aboard as Charley Brewster who discovers Farrell's secret, Christopher "McLovin" Mintz-Plasse plays vampire convert "Evil" Ed Thompsons, "Harry Potter" alum David Tennant is vamp-hunting actor Peter Vincent, and "Solitary Man" star Imogen Poots portrays love interest Amy, with Toni Collette playing Charley's mom.
I know there are tons of fans that adore the original "Fright Night" movie.. so what are your thoughts on this remake?
Does it bother you?
Do you plan on seeing the remake when it's released on August 19th?

I didn't enjoy the first Fright Night. I mean, I liked it when I was a kid, but when I watched it as an adult it just didn't do anything for me. I didn't like the sequel at all, and never wound up watching the whole thing. As for vampire movies, the only vampire movies I ever really cared for were the Lost Boys and its' sequels.
I know the vampire craze is popular now, but I just don't get it LOL. I don't watch True Blood, I don't read Twilight or any of the other vampire books. They're just not for me I guess.
So will I go see the new Fright Night in the movies? No. Will I check it out when it comes to DVD? Possibly, just to see if it's any good or not.

thanks for posting this one, i had almost forgotten about the remake. but i have heard a few things about it.
the original is classic to me. i have good memories of when i first saw it as a kid. my dad used to jam with a guy who had a daughter my age. he would take me to their house and while they were making music, the other girl and i would play with her Jem dolls and she had the movie Fright Night. i remember loving it...and watching it with her several times more when my dad would take me to visit. great soundtrack too!
i don't think i saw part II right away when it was first out, but when i did finally see it, i wasn't a big fan. even now, i have caught pieces of it on cable and i don't really bother with it.
judging by the stills, the remake doesn't really look appealing? but that doesn't mean much. i would say i am going to watch it, because i love the original, but not expect to love it.
haha, i have never watched True Blood, or read those books, but i do like the Twilight book series and i watch the show, Vampire Diaries, which contain romantic plots and centered around forbidden love...not much like Fright Night, although Lost Boys did have more of a love story connected through the main character.
i love the original characters but the girl that played Amy was quite annoying. Evil's scenes were awesome and as a kid, watching the part where he's hiding in bed with a red wig on, terrified me haha.
not sure about seeing it in the theater, unless it seems to get rave reviews, but it might be a fun movie!
we'll see.

I love the original and i have a strong feeling that i will not like the remake
In fact i feel this growing anger inside when they are going to remake the REAL classics.
I still haven´t watched the Assault on Precinct 13 remake... maybe never will.

the assault on precinct 13 remake is pretty good atomik, has nowhere near the coolness of carpenter's original, but overall it's decent enough as remakes go and has a good cast-ethan hawke, larry fishburne and someone i hadn't seen for years brian dennehy, you should give it a go,you might not like it as much as the original but i don't think you'll come away hating it! i too love the original fright night,i think it's near perfect,so i also can't see them coming close to it with the new remake, but you never no,miracles can happen! i'm eager to see the trailer for it just to get the general feel of it!

The original and the sequel were incredibly great films. I absolutely love them both. I also really hate remakes and I just found out on the trailer that this remake will be in 3-D which I can't stand. And sorry but Colin is not nearly as cool as Chris Sarandon.

There is hope for you yet SuperEvilCupcakes.
Finally someone else besides me that enjoys "Fright Night II".. I know you enjoy the original too.. but I'll take "I liked Fright Night II as well" at this point. This crowd it completely loyal to the original and don't appreciate the second quite the same.
As far as this remake.. 3-Dead on arrival it appears from the early feedback.

We've been discussing remakes.. well .. the "Fright Night" remake is upon us with a release date of August 19th, 2011.
I've been seeing commercial previews quite a bit .. the only hope for this movie seems to be the "so bad, it's good" category. The previews are unintentionally funny to me.
To make things worse.. I've heard Collin Farrell is moving on to a "Total Recall" remake soon. Where's a Terminator when you need one?

I will probably end up seeing this even though Colin Farrell makes me cringe. This makes me just want to see the original again. Feeling there is a lot of vampiresploitation movies being made right now.
