This is the 3rd and final installment in the "Vengeance Trilogy" by South Korean Director Park Chan-Wook. It's prequels are "Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance" & "Oldboy."
While both prequels are good in their own right..I keep coming back to this one, probably my favorite of the trilogy. And you really don't have to have seen the other films of the trilogy to enjoy this one. Each film really has nothing to do with the other aside for the same principal theme that ties them all together: Revenge, Violence, & Redemption.
While this film is officially considered a horror film; I really can't understand why. Because it doesn't really fit into that catergory. So, let's just call it what it is, a Thriller/Drama/Action/Suspense/Comedy/Horror.......Damn, I really don't know what it falls under..lol. It's got everything! But overall what it is is a great movie with a great story. And pretty dramatic too. So dramatic that you might just be weeping by the end instead of hiding your eyes. You really feel for the main character and by the end you're pretty much rooting for her to come out on top of the dreadful situation she finds herself in. You're rooting for her regardless of the terrible, sometimes inhumane, things she does. But all the bad things she does all seem to become validated throughout the film as the story unfolds.

I'm gonna keep this review brief as I don't want to give too much of it away. The movie is best viewed when you don't know too much about it anyway.
But, to sum it up...
There's alot of emotion in this "scary" movie. So if you're the emotional type; you might want to have a box of tissue nearby while watching it.
I might also mention that Lee Young Ae, (Lead Character), is quite the Hottie!..=)

I liked it and better than Oldboy. I still haven't seen Sympathy for Mr Vengeance.

I have seen this but not the first 2. What makes this film work so well is that it really is all about the title. I dont want to give anything away but the final scene really does sell this film for anyone who has any sense of philosophy of redemption, karma or whatever you may beleive in. Although its considered a korean film, the japanese producers backed it for its death before dishonor baked philosophy which is again part of this films trademark...meaning its not another glory killing spree thats senseless...and yes Pyro, its ringing true to Martyrs alright!! There is a sense of both unjust, just and wrongs being righted, but not in the sense you might think...this is a must see and i expect maybe Atomik to have a sneek at this one too. If you can pry yourself away from mainstream to watch a few foreign landscaped little gems, i suggest you put this towards the top of the list.

Whats really great about this foreign film, is that its just a great story and Yeong Lee does such a great job and she is just beautiful on screen. As Pyro said..tissues are optional but i suggest if your a guy an wear your heart on ya sleeve, then watch it on ya own so you dont embarass yourself.

The only one I haven't seen, of the Vengeance Trilogy! but then again, im more of a Hong Kong movie guy (my collection just crossed the 300 mark).
Im years behind in the korean and japanese department!
