Summer will be here before we know it, and there're a pair of movies I'm quite looking forward to: I predict Wolverine will kick *** whilst GI Joe will, like Ferris Bueller, lightly slap you.

Hugh Jackman is on fine form, and they couldn't have cast a better actor than Ryan Reynolds for Deadshot, Liev Schreiber could go either way yet I have my doubts about the new Scott Summers (though we don't know exactly how he's going to fit into the story). No word on Lady deathstrike, looks like she's not in it.

GI Joe could go horribly wrong, the trailer sucks and though I'm a Steve Sommers fan (everything from 'Deep Rising' onwards) love his take on 'The Mummy' movies not to mention Chuck Russell's 'Scorpion King' spin-off, making this all come together is going to prove awkward. A bitchy, gun totting Sienna Miller running around in a leather catsuit and fake Russian accent won't be enough...or then again, maybe it will. If they get the Snake Eyes vs. Storm Shadow battle right, millions of people will cheer.

Looking forward to both movies. Any idea for GI JOE who will play Roadblock or Gung Ho? Maybe Ving Rhames or someone similar? Sienna Miller is the Baroness? Give me a break, at least they could use an actual killer brunette.

Lookin forward to Wolverine. I'm skeptical of GI Joe. Why did they have to cast a Wayans brother as Ripcord? Is that the best they could do or did somebody owe someone a favor?

You might have a good point here... Why did they choose Marlon Wayans??? Some of the other characters don't look so "tough" either... [Confused]

Brendan Fraser was cast as Gung Ho but apparently he's now playing another character in a cameo; could be Bazooka or Gung Ho.

Rapper-turned-actor Common ('Smokin' Aces', 'Wanted') was in as Roadblock, but he was on the 'T4' set last year, so I'm guessing its another uncredited cameo like Fraser.

Famke Janssen would've been an ideal Baroness, you'd think Sommer's would've remembered working with her on 'Deep Rising'!

Would it be that hard to cast some raven haired european woman as the Baroness? Brendan Fraser as Gung-Ho is a joke, they need someone grittier than that. Who will play Duke or Hawk?

I'm looking forward to both. A really big G I Joe fan back in the day, so I'm really hoping they don't ruin it. Some poor casting choices in my opinion. Rip....Dennis Quaid is playing Hawk (which might work), but duke is being played by Channing Tatum...younger dude in one of those dance movies. Google (G I Joe Movie) and it gives you a complete casting list. Crossing my fingers.....

As long as Zac Efron isn't Cobra commander or something. LOL. The guy who played Kingpin in Daredevil and in the Green Mile would be perfect as Roadblock.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (a big guy who was in 'The Mummy Returns') is Roadblock, Common was offered the part of Heavy Duty but turned it down in favour of 'T4'.

Marlon Wayans is a good actor when he wants to be
(which is rarely) remember 'Requiem for a Dream'?

Joseph Gordon Levit (great actor) is on for Cobra Commander, every character is younger than they were in the cartoons & comics, I presume they're hoping for a franchise here.

Actually Kash....Adewale is playing Heavy Duty...I really would have preferred that he played Roadblock. I collected the figures up until 84' or 85'...Heavy Duty was one of the later characters, so, I'm not too interested in him...though he still looks pretty cool.

I understand the need for international sensitivity, but internationalizing a Real American Hero (TM) just seems a hair off base, if I may say. Still, if the script was right and everyone interpreted it right regardless of casting (did they say who's going to be Destro, if he's indeed in this one?), it still may work.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje was awesome as Adibisi in Oz on HBO. Myself, I like Marlon Wayans, but he's definitley a comedic actor. He's not great with anything serious. I think his best role was in Above the Rim.

X MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE

Saw it, loved it, may even see it again.

Haven't written a proper review yet, but here are some initial thoughts.

 -

****************************************SPOILERS THEREIN *****************************************

WHAT WORKED: Siblings Logan & Sabretooth, badass opening montage, I can't praise this sequence enough: brilliantly directed, we witness the immortal duo hone their killer instincts in man's endless wars. Look out for Sabretooth's hilariously cool pouncing jump on D-Day.

Ryan Reynolds playing Deadpool; great character, perfect casting the only negative is his limited screen time and how they ultimately handled the character. One of the post-credits cut scenes (the other being Logan in Japan) sees Deadpool emerge from the ashes and break the forth wall in a scene played out ver batem from the animated 'Hulk vs. Wolverine' movie. It's uncertain whether Reynolds will return in a spin off Deadpool movie; if they made one, I'd definitely see it and so would many others.

Liev Schreiber: I had some serious doubts about him, but credit where its due; Schreiber made for an excellent Sabretooth: an imposing, menacing sociopath with highly attuned hunter-killer skills and according to Deadpool: "the nails of a bag lady".

Adamantium steel, the first time we get a visual appreciation of how strong a metal Adamantium really is, it was good in all three 'X-Men' pictures, but this time it goes through everything like a hot knife through butter.

The helicopter gunship sequence; we've only just discovered where Logan got that leather jacket and motorcycle from, when Striker calls in a government death squad to behead the wily Canadian superhero. Carnage ensues, and you'll not find a cooler method of dispatch then Wolverine igniting the downed chopper by sparks from his claws. How'd ya like them apples, bub?

Last but not least: Hugh Jackman. Believe it or not, but its been close to a decade since he first combed his hair in that distinctive fashion, grew those sideburns and glowered like a later day Clint Eastwood. Jackman's unwavering dedication to the role has reaped dividends; for every nuance is covered with ease, every aspect be it physical, vocal and psychological is bought to life. For though he's never worn the trad colours or visor, when Logan calls you "Bub" or SKNTS those claws for action; you know its coming from an artist who believes in what he's doing. And in taking that path, has actually become as iconic as the comic book character himself.

WHAT DIDN'T WORK: Wolverine Vs. The Blob boxing match; completely useless, could've been cut in favour of more Deadpool or Gambit scenes.

Kayla Silverfox subplot; now Lyne Collins actually put in a sterling and believable performance, but the motivation for her betrayal felt rushed, especially since we didn't get to see much of her sister; Emma Frost, until the very end.

Young Cyclopes, not in it for too long but the guy was made to resemble Ben Stiller. Cyclopes, though always a bit of a square ( yes, I appreaciate the post modern irony of using 1950s vernacular to critique a character's relevancy) never really got a fair deal on screen. James Marsden was good in the trilogy, but they could've done so much more with such a cool superpower.

WHAT COULD'VE BEEN BETTER: A few less characters / subplots, another battle scene with Gambit to make him feel more like a serious character and not included for exposition purposes only .

A clearly shot Wolverine berserker attack, there was one mini-berserker attack during the Gambit fight. But so far; only Bryan Singer has come close to accurately depicting this move on screen (in X2: Wolverine vs. Lady Deathstrike).

Continuity: obviously they're bound to be some issues such as Wolverine's clash with Sbaretooth (played by Tyler Mane) in 'X-Men'. But that can always be explained away, in that maybe the powers that be began to vary DNA sequencing after Weapon XI went awry, using Sabretooth's genetic mutations instead, thus the sabretooth in X-Men 1.5 isn't Victor Creed, but a completely different character.

Just got back and all I can say is uggggh. Kash's views almost fit mine to a tee (kickazz opening sequence btw) except I didn't like the movie. Liev as Sabretooth did great but my fave would have been Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool but why kill him off so quickly? He had a lot of unused potential in the movie. I'd love to see a Deadpool movie. I give it 4/10.......

Motley, seems most people and critics agree with you: the movie's getting a lukewarm reception at best though it went straight in at #1

Just heard on the radio this morning on my run, it has been confirmed that Deadpool is getting his own movie. Not sure how legit it is, but I am hoping so.

Went to see this filrm last weekend. I saw the other ones. I know nothing of the comics/stories before. (Always have to ask my boyfriend about characters etc). But I think this one blew the other films out of the water (for me). I'd sit thought it a dozen times more. Love Liev as Victor. (Always picture him as Cotton in the Scream films though).
