I never quite understood the expression 'girl next door’: doesn't that particular sobriquet all kinda depend on where you live?
I mean for me; the girl, or woman next door is Maud Adams a.k.a. Octupussy, that's right; I live in a classy neighbourhood: all ruthlessly ambitious megalomaniacs around here...
But to take the phrase in its traditional context, I'd say (and this is especially for all our Australian Rewinders) Rachel Friend from Neigbours.

Hmmmm...what that poster said made a lot of sense. I live in QUeens New York and Im pretty sure our girls next door look different then the ones in Malibu, the ones in Oklahoma, the ones in Compton........
I think the phrase means when someone looks pretty but somehow obtainable. A lot of people wont get a date with (lets put this in 80s terms) Cindy Crawford...but they could see how they MIGHT get one with Ally Sheedy. So thats what makes Ally a Girl Next door and Cindy a - how you say? - "Wet Dream".

Pretty but obtainable..... then Phoebe Cates is most def NOT the girl next door, as she was the hottest girl in the universe back in the 80's!

It also carries the connotation that she's (at least by appearances) a wholesome "good-girl" and not a slutty sexpot.

Interesting. Here's my take on all the ladies...
Mia Sara = Yes... but she leans towards too pretty.
Molly Ringwald = Yes.

Yessssss!
Phoebe Cates = Too pretty for GND. Maybe in Gremlins.
Kerri Green = Yes.

^ This.
Lori Loughlin = Cheerleader.
Helen Slater = Yes (maybe too pretty, but her 'style' is unprepossessing).
Patricia Arquette = Yes.

^ This.
Elisabeth Shue = Yes (though she did nothing for me).
Jenny Wright = Yes (same as above).

quote:Maybe she's not the ultimate, but 'Boof' from Teen Wolf was a total sweetie pie. She deserves an honorable mention, yes?
