Thinking of some of those fabulous mall scenes in movies such as Valley Girl, Smooth Talk, etc. We had two small malls growing up in Nova Scotia. They still are there, but have expanded a lot since then. My friend hung out there a lot, I'm sure it wan't on a massive scale as some of those large american malls you can get lost in.

We use to take bus trips to Pittsburgh with different clubs I was in , at Christmas time. I loved that. There was always a matinee playing at the movies. It was so much fun to go in to Spencer's, and go shopping for clothes.
There weren't any malls in my hometown, just plazas.
My favorite place at the Mall was Orange Julius.
There was a Pizza place called Mister Pizza- we went there alot.
When I was in high school, I use to double date alot, and we all would go out to Ponderosa for supper, go see a movie, and hang at the mall (in no order).
There was a french fry place that me and my one guyfriend use to go to all the time, I think it was called the Potato Sac. They had all kinds of topping for on fresh cut french fries. He always got sourcream on his french fries- I learned to like them. I always got cheese for mine- you could get all kinds of flavored cheeses-I loved jalapeno peppers and cheese on french fries.

Orange Julius! That was the first place I used to hit up when we visited Chmaplain place in Moncton. God I love those, there's not enough of them these days.
There was also bulk Barn place I absolutely loved to frequent. We would get tons of platic bags of all kinds of candy, nuts, chocolate, jujubes that would last us the entire day and on the way home. There was also a really great place called Kernels, where they had really exotic(for the 80's), flavors of popcorn. It was confectionary heaven.

as a teen, i was never allowed to hang out at the mall. i wasn't a shopper. my mother's thing was... i had no business hanging around the mall if i didn't have money to shop around.
i go there quite often these days, just to walk around and get exercise.

Malls are ok....its funny cuz its like the most trendy people you ever see in life....I'm not into wearing the Hollister Abercrombie logo fashion stuff, so I guess I don't fit into the mall scene....I much prefer wearing my Lost Boys t-shirt...its my self expression. funny story...I went on a date one time with a real shallow girl, and she brought up the idea that I must not make alot of money because I don't wear the name brand....I got kinda irritated with her and explained to her that I purposely refuse to wear brands, logos, etc. I just don't have any interest in wearing what 100's of other douchebag guys are wearing. Not sure how it is elsewhere, but here in Texas we have the PacSun kids and Hot Topic kids...PacSun is for the wannabe skaters that have never touched a board in his or her life. and then we have the Hot Topic kids that wear emo gear....
but other than that, th mall is ok

OhmyGod, we LIVED there! Never had any money, but boy, did we hang out in the mall.
This is funny cuz about 3 days ago someone mentioned Orange Julius (I think it was on THE SIMPSONS) and me and my best friend were like "Mmmmmmm...ORANGE JULIUUUUUUUS" Havent had one in years.
There was a little store in our mall called FAN FAN that sold Heavy Metal T-shirts and flags and stuff like that. That was always our favorite store in the mall. Nowadays kids have stuff like HOT TOPIC where you can buy an ACDC shirt for $40. We had FAN FAN...and they were cheap , dammit!(Is it just me or is HOT TOPIC a joke? You pay $45 to look 'rebelious'? I remember when we were teenagers we used to MAKE our own clothes to try to look like BILLY IDOL or whoever our parents hated at the time!)

There was a mall near my house called "Pavilion Mall". It was an outlet center that closed in 1995. It was then torn down. A movie theater now stands kinda in the same vicinity where the Pavilion Mall was.
I bought my first pair of "Jams" shorts at that mall. They were beautiful. Blue shorts with red trim at the hems. The red trim had little pictures of surfer dudes drawn on them. My high school had our senior trip at a water park (Wild Waves in Federal Way, Washington). I wore those Jams and went down water slides about 200 times. By the time I was finished, the chlorine in the water had bleached the shorts white and the butt of the shorts had been eaten through. I miss those shorts.
After high school I went in the Navy for 4 years. When I got out of the Navy I became a security guard while I went to college. One of my jobs was to open up the Pavilion Mall for the day. I then patrolled it for the majority of business hours. I had a lot of good times at that mall, and I was sorry to see it closed down. I suppose that it was necessary, as outlet malls never seem to last. RIP outlet mall. I wish I could find those Jams again. I would buy them in a second and then wear them everyday.

Oh, growing up in the 80's and hanging at the mall was synonymous for me!
I can remember being in 6th & 7th grade and getting dropped off by my parents on Saturday afternoons with my girlfriends. We'd walk around for hours wearing our pink or yellow Reeboks, Esprit purses, Swatch watches and Guess jeans!
It was sooo much fun just trying on clothes, buying makeup, going to the record store and buying tapes, hitting the food court, calling boys from pay phones and hanging up! Oh yeah, the mall holds many fond memories of my youth!
