A lot of the Chef's material was completely winged; Frank Oz operating the arms would do whatever he felt was funniest with whatever props were at hand, so to speak, and Jim Henson working the head would keep up as best he could. The character really needs more exposure these days; even without them around to perform him, it's not the same without him in a larger capacity.
Incidentally, did anyone ever try the Chef's Kroonchy Stars cereal? The commercials for it were hilarious in their own rights (the best being where he sticks an air pump into the cereal batter and blows it up until it explodes into the star shaped pieces i nthe cereal).

I sat there watching all the clips of The Swedish Chef, and I laughed my head off....he was always trying hard to get something cooking ...he was never very successful...the only thing I saw him actually shoot and kill...was a head of lettuce.
