As I have discovered, it was 1981 when the bears made their first appearances on American Greetings cards. Throughout the 80s, I've read, 70 million CB cards and nearly 40 million stuffed toys were sold. I myself had all the main ones except for Love-a-Lot, and up till age 6 you would often find me nestling all of them together in bed. I would always be holding Grumpy the closest for he was definitely my favorite (what can I say, I've always had a soft spot for good-natured sarcasts).
What role did the Care Bears play in your lives?

by the time the care bears came around I was too old to concern myself with stuffed animals and felt the tv show was way too sappy and syrupy for my likes. So the care bears were a definite non-entity in my life.

I got my first Care Bear, Tenderheart Bear, when I thought I was gonna have to have my tonsils out. I believe I was 5 or 6. Anyway, I have a bunch of them as well. I had Care Bear books, glasses, clothes, sheets... I always, always ALWAYS wanted Birthday Bear, but my mom and dad could never find it. So about 5 years ago (keep in mind I was like, 24) I was walking down the mall by Claire's Boutique, and low and behold, they had this huge Birthday Bear pillow. So I went and bought it. Just couldn't help myself!

And they are still alive and kicking. My daughter who is 9 collects them. They are her favorite toy.
