Monday marks the sad 20th anniversary of the college basketball star's tragic coke-triggered death. Many who saw him actually play feel that had he stayed clean, the Celtics' dynasty could have kept going well into the 90s. Some solace could be found in the fact that his passing started the anti-drug laws against college athletes.
Who here remembers this?

I remember it. My family was enroute to the beach when we heard it over the radio. Our local paper had an article about this tragedy in the sports section today. Alot of folks (me included) felt he would have been one of the dominant forces in the NBA like he was in the ACC when he played at Maryland.......

Bumping this thread - hard to believe Len Bias died 30 years ago this year. Very sad.
Though I wasn't a huge sports fan at the time, I grew up in Maryland back in the '80's, so do remember hearing about this on the news. It's one of the first times I heard about an athlete/person in the entertainment industry dying of a drug overdose.
And, this is something that people still bring up occasionally...

It's sad that somebody has to die or something very serious has to happen before people sit up and take notice
