Yaz is totally 80's. My favs are "Only You", "Situations", "Don't Go", & "Tuesday" which is on another CD, but worth checking out.
I once went to a club that was called "Upstairs At Eric" which turned out to be a cool technodance bar. That was fun!

"Only You" was used in my favorite '90s movie... "Can't Hardly Wait" in the scene near the end of the movie,at the Train Station when Preston Myers locks lips with Amanda Beckit

I thought they were Yazoo? I'm sure that's what they were called here. There was a song in 1988 by Yazz and the Plastic Population, called "The only way is up", great song

Same group. In the U.S., the group's name had to advertise itself as Yaz in 1982, when it was discovered that a small record company called itself Yazoo Records and registered the "Yazoo" name.

That confused me too, I was thinking Yaz with her good old classics such as doctor in the house, the only way is up and....and....and....oh no that was it I can regularly be found making a fool out of myself by dancing to 'Only you' on the dance mat I got for my birthday (its the only recognisable song)

I still love Alison's song "Invisible" song from 1985!
If I remember correctly, she was slightly pregnant when she made that music video!

Ooops...forgot all about that. There WERE two groups called Yaz. And so the One Yaz had to change thier name to Yazoo. The Yaz that sings THE ONLY WAY IS UP (which is hard to find...I had to download it) is NOT the same group Yaz that did SITUATION,MIDNIGHT,ONLY YOU,DIDNT I BRING YOUR LOVE DOWN etc. I think one of them was spelled YAZZ and one was YAZ...... (What are the chances of two groups of people thinking "YAZ" was a cool name for a group???)

Too bad Yaz only had two albums, they definetly had some dance anthems. The keyboard work sounds very similar to the first Depeche Mode album Vince Clarke played on. I would love to find the rest of their videos, the only one I have seen is Don't Go.

Alison Moyet has such a deep and soulful voice, her and Annie Lennox are my favorite kind of english singers for that style. Situation is such a great dance song.

ha...we are dusting off so many old threads that I have to reread everything before I comment. I'm like, who is that loser?.....oh wait that was me two years ago.
Vince Clarke has had quite the career. I still enjoy Yaz and Erasure, but they pale in comparsion to Depeche Mode.

"Situation" is one of my favorite 80's new wave songs. "Only You" was also a good one, and has also been used in Napolean Dynamtie and the American version of the television show "The Office".

All good tunes. Many of them used on 'The Chocolate War'. 'Only You' is an all time classic. The second album - 'You and Me Both' - while being weaker than the first, is pretty good too. 'Nobody's Diary' from that album is an absolute cracker.
