Okay--

I heard a song this morning that I had never heard, at least I thought until it started playing. Atomic Dog by George Clinton. As I am listening to the song I can't help but sing Snoop Doggy Doggy to it. I am thinking wow I didn't know that this song even existed. I guess Snoop Dog isn't so great after all, not that I ever thought that he was, but his popular catchy song was a take off from another artist. Have any of you heard other songs like that and you didn't realize you were listening to a remake??

Another one is Will Smith's Men in Black song. I didn't know it was a song from before, 80s I think, called Forget Me Nots. Isn't it a small world.....

Small world hell! ALL crap artists sample other usually older songs. Mariah Cary even did it with a song originally done by the Tom Tom Club.
From Wikipedia
"Genius of Love" has been sampled or reinterpreted by many artists, including rapper Funkdoobiest and Mariah Carey in her hit single "Fantasy". "It's Nasty" (1982) by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five was one of the early rap versions of the song - however, the sample was re-recorded by a live band, as was common practice at the time. Another version, "Genius Rap" (1981), by Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde, appeared even before Flash and the Furious Five's version.

P. Diddy is another one who "samples" (steals IMO) music from other artists. He used part of The Police's Every Breath You Take in some song about another rapper that was killed.

That was 1997's "I'll Be Missing You," dedicated to the memory of the Notorious B.I.G.

One I do recall hearing the remake of first was the remix of "Forget-Me-Nots" that was repackaged (more successfully, I feel) as the Men In Black theme.

Oh yeah, Mariah rips off everybody! She does covers of everybody else's song and "samples" everybody too. How can anyone like her? She just rehashes other peoples stuff. (I still havent forgiven her for taking on DEF LEPPARD's Bringing On the Heartbreak)

Sometimes sampling (or ripping off) works. Public Enemy did "He Got Game" and sampled Buffalo Springfield's "For What It's Worth."

Some modern songs I have hear sounds like remakes and they often turns out to be that. The original is often the best, especially if it's from the 80's. Recently I have heard remakes of 'Break My Stride', 'Land of Confusion', 'American Pie', 'Heaven', 'The Tide is High' and 'Axel F'.
Sometimes new songs have only parts of the original. I've heard a song with ABBA's 'gimmie, gimmie' in the background, and with an entirely differnt song. I hate some remakes; they're so stupid and the artist thinks they're so good but they have just stolen it from another.

I also heard Nicki French's cover of Total Eclipse of the Heart before Bonnie Tyler's original. Truthfully, I think the redux is a little better too; Tyler's just a little too over the top with her emotions while singing it.

I have heard 'Dance With The Devil' by Phenomena. Later I heard another version (a better one), but I don't know who made that other version or if it's a remake or original.

Orgy redoing Blue Monday was better than the original version. Heck even Stabbing Westwards version of Love Triangle was better than the original.

Everlasting love has been done by a dozen artists. I like Gloria Estefan the best, she wasnt the first, nor the last.

Uptown girl, i like both versions equally.

Celine Dion Vs Meat Loaf...its all coming back to me now. Celine Dion does a better job.... I love meat loaf and despise Celine Dion
