It is funny that Steven posted the lyrics to another song, cause I was coming here to do the same thing....this is my favorite Christmas song, I heard it on the radio tonight on the way home:

[CHORUS:]
Last Christmas
I gave you my heart
But the very next day you gave it away
This year
To save me from tears
I'll give it to someone special

[CHORUS:]

Once bitten and twice shy
I keep my distance
But you still catch my eye
Tell me baby
Do you recognize me?
Well
It's been a year
It doesn't surprise me
I wrapped it up and sent it
With a note saying "I love you"
I meant it
Now I know what a fool I've been
But if you kissed me now
I know you'd fool me again

[CHORUS]

A crowded room
Friends with tired eyes
I'm hiding from you
And your soul of ice
My god I thought you were
Someone to rely on
Me?
I guess I was a shoulder to cry on

A face on a lover with a fire in his heart
A man under cover but you tore me apart
Now I've found a real love you'll never fool me again

[CHORUS x2]

A face on a lover with a fire in his heart
A man under cover buy you tore him apart
Maybe next year I'll give it to someone
I'll give it to someone special.

You can't make a list of great 80s holiday songs without mentioning this one.

That Wham song always stood out as one of the better Christmas songs from the 80's. Like the melody, it gives you a good feeling when it comes on. My favorite X-mas songs however are the Waitresses Christmas Wrapping and the Pretenders 2000 miles.

Ah, Volume 2. That has a good selection on both discs--not quite as good as the ones on Volume 1, but still solid. I wonder if they'll roll out a third set next year or so? (I don't know for sure if it's 80s or not, but I fell Bryan Adams's "Something About Christmastime" belongs on these sets).

Wham! were brilliant. Last Christmas is definitely my favourite Christmas song. The tune is irresistible, and the chorus has the triple whammy achievement of being simple, positive, and sad all at the same time.

Small piece of Trivia for those that are intrested. This is also the biggest selling Number 2 of all time in the UK charts, kept of the top......of course by Band Aids - Do They Know Its Chritmas.

I heard that new version of Do they know it's Christmas....and it stunk so bad. I don't understand why they redid that song, because it was it's own whole unique song...nobody else can sing those different parts of it but the ones who originally did it.

If you want to do a song for charity...or even just a regular Christmas song...come up with your own....there are so many Christmas songs from the past...I love Amy Grant...she does some great Christmas music, but that also seems to be a thing of the past.

It seems that everyone can come out with a Christmas CD, of songs already done a million times, but can't write a new song to save their life.

Devolution here,

One of my favorites, besides "The 12 Pain's of Christmas" (She's a witch, I hate her).

Best line of the whole thing is at the end.

"Maybe Next Year"

Me and my friends still call each other up and leave that message.

Another small piece of trivia: Barry Manilow sued Wham! for Last Christmas, saying it sounded like his hit "Can't smile without you". It does, but only because it has a swing style rythm. It also bears more than a passing resemblance to the David Cassidy song "Daydreamer" for the same reason.
But the song it sounds most like is Kool and the Gang's "Joanna" (but only on the chorus).
However, all the similarities are slight, and the song Last Christmas beats 'em all hands down!
Incidentally, Barry lost.
