This is to ask how many people think the song "Molly" by the group Sponge is really about the career of Molly Ringwald. Here's the candid lyrics...Are they talking about her big break-up with Jake Ryan?
I see you naked in the bath Cigarette stains on your hands Wilted flowers in a vase And I ask how you are
I see your lipstick on your glass And I think you're drunk And start to laugh And I find your note the letters ran And it said I loved you
Don't ask why
Sixteen candles down the drain
I watch you passed out for a while I touch your face you Start to smile And on your note is my reply I wished I loved you
Don't ask why
Sixteen candles down the drain
The words aren't that descriptive really, but I've always liked the song. In an interview with Molly Ringwald, she said that she knew the song was about her. Maybe the title and the reference to Sixteen Candles....what do you think?

Valley, you should know better. This song came out in the mid-90s.

I never heard of it ever. So, I can't comment on it, but it didn't really sound like the movie version to me.

I remember Spong and this song, this came out in 93 or 94. They were kind of a weird group for the time, the singer had kind of a rough, throaty voice. Never clued in it was about Ringwald until now.

MotleyRulz, do you like the song? It's totally different than most Sponge songs liked Plowed or Have you seen Mary, but maybe it's because the song is associated with Molly Ringwald is the reason I like it the best.

It's probably my favorite Sponge song. I like it the best simply because it's different than all their other songs. It takes you back to thinking about the 80s with a modern touch sorta like looking back on things...
